I have conductive shielding paint that I like to apply a liberal coat covering all cavities. I also like to drill out neck screw holes in body to ensure good connectivity between neck and body, also after stringing loosen screws and retighten to let strings pull neck into pocket tighter, all adds to sustain and better tone.

@30smsuperstrat
3 жыл бұрын
It will cost you more, just as building a car from parts would cost you more. The reason to do it is getting exactly the specs you want. The reason to use fender parts instead of Warmoth or any other licensed manufacturer is what it's worth after the build. A warmoth that cost $1000 to build may play like a customshop, but unfortunately people will only give you Squier money for it. The Fender parts caster is a Fender guitar when it's put together, and that's worth almost it's weight in copper😆, aka way more then any warmoth build. It doesn't make sense cause warmoth has awesome stuff, but try selling it on Reverb and you'll see.

If you can hold the metal part with your fingers while soldering, it is probably not hot enough. Great project. from memory (this was a month or more ago) I believe the back of the bridge pickup provided the ground. The black wire with the screw mount was attached to the obsidian wire kit into a grounding slot. Did I not show all this? I'd have to go back and watch

my Frankencasters are better than most store bought Fenders, but some are eg: a JV squire strat neck with a custom shop strat body, you never know until you try.

I would rather make my own body out of old wood. Tele bodies are easy to make. Old architectural salvage doors and old pieces of solid wood furniture at the thrift store are good sources. If you wanted to try a semihollow or thinline style construction old junk pianos with lids and benches are also good. Piano and organ places are worth cruising. You also might find the old organ tone cabs with drivers much like those in old tweed Fenders and tube amps reworkable into guitar amps. Church pews , altar and lecterns good sources when scrapped as well and who knows, may give you a holier tone.

This is the second build I see from you and in both you have to put different screws in the pickups. That shouldn't be acceptable when you are using original new parts made for the same model. And they're not cheap. If you have 3 possible metrics in your standard, you should include the 3 installation systems with the part you are selling, Fender. Love the videos, by the way.

Hey Lando, she looks a beauty! You should not have to adjust the neck often, roasted Maple hardly ever moves. Other than you had a couple of washers left over from mounting the control board, the only thing that struck me as odd was there seemed to be no wire earthing the underside of the bridge. Does the Obsidian kit have a way to negate the need for this wire? String trees are the devil to mount if it is for the first time, even if you have the strings on! Well done.

hey thanks! I could be wrong but I believe the back of the bridge pickup plate gets grounded by the bridge itself. I don't have any noise issues so it seems ok

Cooll vid, and relevant to me, since I've got a couple Tele's and a Strat in the works, thank ya! Mine are "aftermarket" parts from GFS, considerably less pricey; yeah, ya go into that fully realizing there may be a little more aggro, but it's all good. If my results are half as good as yours, I'll be quite satisfied.

Nice video.i like that you owned your mistakes. The solder-less wire kit made wiring look reasonably easy. The guitar sounds great except I don’t care for the full on distortion mode, but that’s just me. I know some songs more or less require it, so hey, it’s there if you want it. Overall, well done. So you mentioned that you could buy the thing for $ 1800 all done. How much for your version? Maybe I just missed it in the video. I’m going to go out on a limb and guess it cost you $900 to $1000 all toll. And about eight hours of your time. Did you feel it was worth it? Anyway good job

Why did you put the string tree if your tuners are staggered? The difference in size is to cut the need for the string trees.

I basically did the budget version of this guitar. instagram.com/p/BpAbPgUl27M/ There is absolutely no reason why you can't or shouldn't build a partscaster BEFORE you buy a "real" Fender guitar. Leo made these things modular for a reason. DIY, spec to taste, and don't be afraid to take it to a luthier if you get in over your head!
