I HAVEN'T WATCHED ALL YOUR VIDEOS ( excuse the caps ) but enough to see a GREAT father son team and project. Really a very nice cart. My son is 40 years old but when he was growing up I enjoyed all the good father son things we did. One was building a go cart. Wasn't nearly as nice as yours but was pretty fast with a 5 hp engine. I bought a nice crash helmet with a visor. My sons first test ride he took off with the cart and went about 300 yards and hit a tree and the cart flipped twice in the air as my son went flying off. I thought I just injured my son seriously as I took off running to get to him. Thank God he was all right. I asked him what happened ? He said the visor had fogged over and he couldn't see where he was going. Later on we built a working hovercraft for a 8 th grade science fair and won best of show. Father son and father daughter relationships are so very important. I served as an infantry solider in Vietnam in 1968/69. I wanted my son to also serve if he decided to. He graduated from college and applied for a Navy scholarship to go to medical school and was received. Today he is an ER doctor and our daughter a high school math teacher. Stay involved with your kids people and you'll see great results. Sam I bet you might be a mechanical engineer someday. God bless you and your dad and good luck. I am U.S. Army Ret. MOPH

Wow- thanks so much! We're having a lot of fun and learning a lot. I'll remember the gut-punch feeling of seeing that kart flip over for the rest of my life. That was a rough day. My father in law is a retired army CSM, so I have a lot of respect for you gentlemen. We just released a new video of a steel and wood American flag that you might enjoy. Thanks again!

Thanks! We're glad you enjoyed it. We recently posted plans for the frame on our website: www.anticsgarage.com/gokart. I need to put together a parts list for some of the other odds & ends, because several people have asked. Whenever I complete the parts list, I'll post it on our website as well. Good luck with your project!

Watched all six episodes. Thanks for taking the time to produce this. I have twin 8 year old girls so will have to make two carts. This is going to take a lot of money and time. I was always going to make something to limit the speed and after seeing the end of this episode, it's now a must before it gets out of the workshop. A big Thank You.

Our kart frame is 22" wide at the back, then tapers down to 17" wide at the front to allow room for the front wheels' steering arc. The front axle is 25" long (from kingpin to kingpin). The wheelbase is 51", with an overall length of 72". Ours is pretty long, but I made it that way for an adult to ride comfortably. Overall width (outside edges of tires) is about 38". Hope that helps. Good luck with your project!

@anticsgarage5230

That's a great question. We've had a few people build this kart with a 48v, 2000w motor, like for an electric scooter, but I haven't heard any reports on performance, good or bad. I suppose it depends on battery and controller selection as well. I'd like to explore an electric build in the future.

So just watched the whole series, and it was all because I already have a go kart, however I have a wheel barrow without wheels, I wanna make a frame around it, mount the engine to the front, and have a chain going to the rear wheels like normal, it’s gonna be like a Ford T-Bucket kinda thing, so any suggestions?
@anticsgarage5230
3 жыл бұрын
Sounds like a sweet project! The biggest issue will probably be chain length and location. However, you could probably run a jack shaft. Two shorter chains would be more work to set up, but less problems. It would allow you to route your chain wherever you want. Plus it would allow a lot of options gearing- wise. If you build this thing, we've gotta see it!
@Chopshop573co

Antics Garage oh yeah for sure, I’m only 15, me or my dad don’t have the time, but once I get a job and a vehicle to haul around Aluminum, might build the frame out of aluminum to keep it light and strong. That chain tho yeah I was thinking it would be a little long, however motorcycle chains are a little shorter so idk, I’ll have to figure it out. Or I do a rear engine mounted setup like usual to make it easier, but build a trunk behind it, or some sort of truck bed. It would be pretty cool to make it road legal as well 🤷♀️😂

Assuming it has a fairly low center of gravity, I don't know exactly what would cause something like that. Unless you've got a really gnarly engine on it. you can build to your own specs it takes a lot of pride to build a Go Kart frame they way you want it to look and fill use square tubing it is easier to work with you don't have to worry if the rear axle bracket maybe instead of 1 bracket why not use 2 or 3 it is not going to break off by adding gussets you are adding a safety idea not round never buy a used go kart kart made out of round tubing and modify it for a live axle axle not a good idea i have to many live axle builds that use round tube i am going to be building my own using some of the ideas from you my kart is going to be using is about 30 feet of square steel tubing 1.5x1.5 it going to cost about $30.00 dollars from Bobco metals in Los Angeles i live in the Valley it cost $2.00 a cut easier for me to have done for about $100.00 Dollars i will save a lot of time may be about 50 cuts Thank You Gentleman for your Ideas AKA Antics Garage i will be adding seat belts and some type of roll cage design from Nascar or a Funny car and a seat belt
