After searching many video on building a workbench, and already having a mine set on a way building it. Change of plans after watching your video, thanks, I just did some mods to the design . Did double leg assembly by starting with 2x6 on outer leg and 2x4 on inner leg (for each leg) also added 2x6 rails under legs and added coaster wheels to fit my needs. Thanks buddy for the video you shared.

Worked great, thanks much! My son and I built mine 2/3 size, 3/4 plywood for the top, used deck screws, and mounted heavy duty polyurethane locking swivel casters on the bottom of the legs so I can roll it out into my carport for projects (this would work for the keeping the legs dry, by the way). Casters also allowed shelf to be all the way at the bottom, makes a good base for the casters and giving more room for my compressor, compact table saw, miter saw, etc underneath. More expensive but a sweet bench and very sturdy.

howdy - i'd just like to say THANK YOU for this video. I build this in an afternoon, yesterday, and it is solid as a rock. I'm going to be putting some heavy HEAVY items on there to work on, so I'm going to add two legs in the middle for added support and stability, but man, SUPER cheap design and super easy build for a carpenter n00b like myself. My father was a pro carpenter so I'm SO embarassed that I struggled as much as I did with this. heheh. but now that I have my bench I plan to practice!! THANKS AGAIN!!

Good video and workbench. I liked the idea of using the 90 degree metal brackets to hold the top on it. Like you said, when it comes time to move, etc...you can easily remove the top, making it much lighter. I think I'll use your plans as a starting point for the one I'm going to make.

I used the same method for the legs on my coffee table, end tables, and computer desk that I built with 1x2s and 1x4s. I have had them for nearly 7 years and they hold up well. I did wind up pulling them apart though and glueing because over time the joints creaked since they were only held together with small finish nails. I like that it's simple and strong.

I bought this for my friend for his birthday as we just moved into a new house and he finally has room for a workshop. The bench was very easy to set up kzitem.infoUgkxyFZUPFEey-PuqsPMxqaykBhgA1LWxFHh They center support is a little difficult to snap in and out of place at first but at least then we know the bench is secure. It was a pleasant surprise when we saw it came with clamps. I apparently missed that in the description. My friend loves the versatility of the bench. Great starter bench for his workshop and easily transportable all over our property. I wish the bench was a little taller but the other features of the bench more than make up for that.

Before attaching the door/top to the frame I'd paint the frame with some kind of water-repelling primer. Garages get cold and damp and a paint job would definitely prolong the life of this project. Could also add some casters to the legs to make the workbench a bit more manageable. The most creative thing I found here was the idea to use a solid-core door, and to get it from Habitat for Humanity Restore. I never woulda thought of that. Brand new solid-core doors run $200 or more at home improvement stores so a marred one from a reclamation store makes tons of sense.

Can somebody who knows what they are talking about correct me if I'm wrong but aren't drywall screws a very bad and wrong choice of screw for constructing a "heavy duty work bench", or any wood work project for that matter, aren't they designed for drywall, are brittle and can snap?

Also, for the top, if your dimensions are different or do not have access to solid core door, can use 1/2" tongue and groove flooring (trim the tongue off) with a sheet of masonite over the top for smooth clean surface you can replace after years of abuse.

This is a great workbench and I will use the ideas with some modification. For the legs, I will use a combination of 2x4s and 2x6s for extra strength. I will also use 2x6s for the top frame since I will be making it 8' long. I will also be adding 5" casters. Without the possibility of a solid core door, I most likely will be using a 3/4" sheet of plywood with hardboard on the top. I watched again, but the second time without sound. I didn't want to hear "whale" or "whaling" again. :-) Thanks for the ideas!

Hi...I just made a similar bench today except that instead of a heavy door my top is a 3/4 inch ply wood. I am not sure why but it's still not very sturdy I.e it slightly wobbles side to side when I apply pressure. Any tips on addressing this? Ideally I want a solid structure which doesn't shake at all.
