I finally get around to building my own Magnetic Saw Guide after the Neodymium magnets I ordered online finally arrived.
As I am a beginner, I don't have the muscle memory or the skill to "saw straight" freehanded or even with just my thumb--regardless of my above average level of patience.
I learned about making this when I was browsing for videos on KZitem that would help me use my saw better, and while there are many tutorial videos that you can find which will show you how to build these things step-by-step--my video, however, is simply a documentation of my build after evaluating ideas and combining the aspects that I liked.
I also get to use Danish Oil for the first time, which is a natural, and time-intensive, but worthwhile method in protecting the wood--which will also, hopefully, protect my Japanese razor saws which are some of the prized tools in my possession, and which I absolutely love using.
I have 3 objectives for this build:
1. Cut a VERY squared-off piece of wood to act as the main base/body of my saw guide for the really strong rare-earth magnets to get bedded in.
2. Use a natural oil finish to protect the wood and would also be a good finish to protect my Japanese saw whenever I use my MSG (magnetic saw guide).
3. Make a very useful woodworking tool that will last me a very long time.
I am an amateur DIY builder who is just starting to learn the fine craft of woodworking, as well as the precise and unforgiving art of Japanese joinery.
I am determined to learn and succeed, so thank you for joining me in this journey.
I hope you enjoy the videos I will be sharing with you.
