The prices in the UK are far cheaper than in Australia though, cheapest MX5 I could find was about $7,000AUD and it had about 270,000kms on the clock, though you could get a decent one for 10K. The parts and labor costs would also probably be way higher here :(

MX-5s not expensive in the US, but not so unbelievably cheap as in UK. The only the you could get for 1K lbs in the US is a bad clunker or a hidden gem. 1k lbs approx $1300 in the US is pretty much nothing, a car that hopefully will run for a year if you are lucky. I can't imagine getting that MX-5 for under $2500 n the US.

Nice to see some in the UK are now quoting rwhp (which is what a chassis dyno measures) and not extrapolating crank bhp and quoting it as gospel. Would be interesting to perform the same experiment using a TorSen LSD, bigger braked (including ABS), wider tyred 2001 onwards Sport model fitted with upgraded suspension bushes and a decent set of anti-roll bars (e.g. 1.125” hollow front, 12mm rear).
@edge21str

A stiffer front sway bar would've been a good investment. The mx-5 sway bars are made to over-steer a bit out of the box, because it's more fun to drive like that. Having it tend to under-steer slightly however can improve your lap times and make the car more stable and less twitchy at corner entry. In any case a great and easy build for a fun track car and daily.
@Yowzoe
8 жыл бұрын
Looks like front sway bars for NAs range from 11mm to 21mm. Is bigger always better (for a hard-driving daily)?
@edge21str
8 жыл бұрын
Yowzoe For hard driving in general I'd get the thickest one available to you for a good price. If you look into tubular sway bars you can even find ones that are up to 29mm thick and still save weight, but they're a little more expensive.

The miata weighs 500-600 pounds lighter depending on model and has a shorter wheel base. At low speeds and normal driving, it's more fun regardless of price. Just like most people would agree a go kart is more fun than a car, that's a miata compared to almost any other car.
