Pro tip, RE: PVC drain, since you don't need a direct straight line, nor a constant angle, if you use two 45deg angles you can make any angle from 0 deg to 90 deg.

I used to use those pickets for railings but gave up after too many failures over time. What I do now is make hog wire panels. Just cut a 2x4 in half lengthwise, sand, and paint or stain. Cut the panels (get them cheap at Tractor Supply Company) to fit in the dimensions of the panel for the rail section. Set one half of the 2x4 part then the section of the hog panel then the other half to create a railing sandwich. Drill a hole in the bottom channel of the rail panel for drainage then repeat till the panels are all built. Install. This will allow a more physical view and be a lot stronger. Those pickets tend to cup over time. I agree that an angling platform would be a nice upgrade!!

A good paint roller is the way to go on basically any painting project, but brushing gets you more time on that job clock. You end up refining your brush technique because of all the time you spend doing it, but it's definitely not an efficient use of man hours.

True Pro Tip from my OCD building experience… assemble all the railings into the post before you lag the posts into the framing. That way they all have the same length at the top rail and bottom rail. This makes them all perfectly plumb without having to put a level on the posts as you bolt them on.
