I just completed my my new Ryzen 7800X3D DCS build in the V2 version of this case. The controls are shifted to the right side of the top, in a line front to back. I'm running the ARGB off the motherboard with the 4 case fans and DeepCool AIO LE520 cooler (mounted in the roof of the case) lighting daisy chained to the header by the memory slots. My GPU (also with ARGB) will plug in to the ARGB header near the front panel IO strip on the Asus TUF Gaming B650-E Wifi board. It's a great case for not a lot of money, if like me you prefer more function over form. It looks great with the fans and cooler set to all red. I ditched the 3.5" drive bay as my build will be all M.2 storage, which means there's plenty of room for stuffing excess cables.

My philosophy is generally as little money should be spent on the case and aesthetics as possible until it is no longer possible to spend more money on more performance. This case or at least the one without RGB comes in cheap with adequate air flow, that's enough for me personally and for the types of people I generally build for. In machines I've built lately there's even a lot of exposed green PCB RAM, since I've been going xeons and RDIMMs to meet either memory bandwidth concerns or budget constraints at a given price point. All this to say I appreciate knowing that this case is adequate, since I was mildly concerned about airflow due to the portion of the front panel that is solid. When paired with deepcool's pretty decent AK620 cooler it should make for a pretty decent relatively low noise build, though if the stock fans are too loud it may get me to dip into my stock of ML120s for my customer. If you happen to read this how did you find the fan noise?
@thecomputersurgeon
Жыл бұрын
Hi! Thanks for your thoughtful comment. As long as there is clearance for your AK620, I think you'll be just fine. Great cooler. I tend to set the fans to a custom fan curve 40% duty up until 70c on the CPU, so they were generally plenty quiet. Everyone has their own tolerance for noise of course. At idle the PSU fan was louder imo The Montech Air 1000 Premium may be another option for you. It comes with a 4000D Airflow style front panel included in the box. We've got a review coming in a few weeks but you can check out the second image on the link below if you were curious pc36.co.uk/products/arcturus-arc-a770-i5-12400f-16gb-fast-lane-gaming-pc-pc36

@@thecomputersurgeon I used the Montech Air 900 for my last personal rig upgrade, I don't know for sure if it was them or supermicro that didn't quite line up the holes for standoffs in the proper location for EATX, but it fit after a little drilling it worked out fine. I'm going to guess it was Montech given that I found a good number of those cases sold as open box and don't seem to see it new here, almost as though a bunch of people couldn't properly mount their boards. Plenty of airflow to keep my w-3235 cooled and quiet paired with the noctua NH-U14S DX-3647. The 1000 looks good as well.

how is it adequate flow tho with that solid front panel? I had to remove the panel entirely to have normal cpu/gpu temps
@AmaraTheBarbarian
Жыл бұрын
@@cimi93x My end result after actually getting the thing built was just fine, staying in the 70s and relatively quiet for gaming loads, and synthetics like prime 95 and furmark didn't go above the 80s for their respective components, which is well within spec, and this is with 10 cores of skylake and a 3070 Ti, I did dip into my stock of ML120s for the final. If it had been my system to keep I'd run the numbers again rather than going from memory to be more exact, but I won't give the client the final product if we're that loud and hot unless the budget is really tight and we know from the beginning that's where it'll end up. Cooling is a dance of more than just perfect case airflow. Obviously something like the old (non flow) NZXT H510 is going to be more restrictive and hurt performance to some degree, but fans also have a static pressure rating for a reason, because even full mesh like my Montech Air 900 is going to be at least somewhat restrictive compared to just removing the front panel. But we compensate, with mass, surface area, flow, pressure, and things like heat pipes that use the energy to change matter from one phase to another and the expansion when doing so to quickly move heat from the source to the sync. If you're having problems with this case I'd venture a guess to say it has less to do with the case airflow and more to do with some other inefficiency in that chain. Not all of it can be helped, but I've done things like put overclocked K sku i7s (before i9s existed) in ITX builds and had them stable cool and relatively quiet. In that case the CPU package was the inefficiency, with a TIM under the IHS that left much to be desired, and the IHS itself which is never perfectly flat (manufacturers will say it's to compensate for thermal expansion and contraction through changes in temperature and there is truth in that), so the best thing to do was to delid swap the TIM underneath the IHS and some lapping on the IHS itself, stripping the nickel and finishing off the copper (since the conductivity of nickel is less than copper) to as close to a mirror finish as possible (so the 2 more conductive materials, the copper cold plate of the cooler and copper of the IHS are as closely bonded as possible). If more heat makes it to the sync efficiently even with a small sync cooling results are better. The 3080 I have now was sold cheap as broken because it would crash after prolonged load, in its case it was the bond, a dead space in TIM application on the die and no bond between the front plate memory was bonded to and the larger sync, the solution there is simple as paste and pads (in my case the front plate and cooler were close enough over memory that just paste was enough to bond if the gap was wider I could have used more of the pads that I swapped from memory). When I put my current system in the Montech Air 900 it was a bit of a compromise, on a 3647 platform cooler orientation is locked by virtue of a non square ILM, so dealing with differences in flow direction between my GPU and CPU in a standard case is something I had to do, but on a consumer platform intel platform with a square ILM you could potentially have a cooler mounted facing upwards and a flow through GPU, so potentially with the right case that intakes at the bottom or has a different motherboard orientation you could reduce efficiency loss from flow direction changes or in the case of bottom to top be (somewhat) convection assisted (probably not perfect though unless the heat load is quite low natural airflow is only going to get you so far)

@thecomputersurgeon
Жыл бұрын
They are bog standard. Fine for anything but the highest end systems The RGB daisy chains (NB there are 2 versions - see pinned comment) They are 3 pin fans so are DC controlled not PWM. The fan speed does not daisy chain so you'll need a PWM splitter if your board doesn't have enough headers. Some motherboards are better for DC control than others. MSI and Gigabyte seem to be the best in that regard and make DC fans functionally the same as PWM
