Jay your amazing at what you do. I would hands down say your one of the best engine builders in the world. I have alot of love for cars but have never jumped into the engine build scenerio from scratch. After watching this I realised how little I knew and what I actually need to read up on. It's intimidating for sure but I'm glad to see theirs people like you that just want to help others out. We all made mistakes before and it's always helpful to learn from one another. Just an fyi I took 3 breaks watching this to tame 2 toddlers and still came back to finish it! Again thanks Jay for everything you do and another excellent video. 👍👊

I’ve been going to school for three years now for mechanics I’ll tell you what. The hardest thing Ive had trouble finding is finding and picking the correct parts for the particular build you are wanting too do. There are plenty good videos of doing builds. But this shows the right things . Notice that when I heard setting up a goal

I believe a domed piston displaces LESS air than a dished piston. The compression ratio is higher with a domed piston not because it displaces more air, but because the combustion chamber is smaller

I’m currently in the design phase of building a full carbon open Wheel car on the level of modern day IndyCars. Are there any engines on the market today that would be remotely close to the specs of the current Honda V6’s they use? I will be focusing on a speedway ovals spec such as what is ran at IMS and Texas etc... I’m mostly looking for good crates. But If there’s good blocks and parts out there I’m not apposed to building it myself. Will need to be: twin turbo V6 700+hp Capable of 12,000rpm Max bore of 95mm current IndyCar engine specs cont...

Look into buick stage 2 motors they have bores from 4" all the way to 4.155" they were used in indy cars and in the busch series back in the the day. Can handle lots of rpm and lots of power.

When talking about crankshafts; what is your opinion on forged split-pin cranks, and the strength of them? An example, Buick V6 or Lamborghini Gallardo V10? If building a turbo engine for hill climb events (6-7k RPM sustained) with such a crank (4” stroke, 1.7RR), are there any concepts or modifications to the design/build that’ll positively affect durability? Such as retarded ignition timing for decreased cylinder pressure or having material added to the splits between the journals (getting balanced thereafter)? Only concern about the engine durability is breaking the crank, everything else is proven capable of the intended output (800-1200awhp). Thanks!

ust had my 350 5.7 rebuild from the crank on up..about 3 months ago..and its blowing blue smoke out the pipes i got about 2000 miles on it now and im using quart of oil about 250 miles i pulled the plugs out and #7 has lot of oil on ,that spark plug on the threads only..tell me what you think
@doyleboyscustoms3151
3 жыл бұрын
Improper break in caused premature ring wear, you're gonna need to get the cylinders honed or even re bored and new pistons installed with new rings. Could also be bad valve seals on your #7 cylinder if that's the only one with oil on the plug
