I'm going to pass this along to my almost an eagle scout grandson. Great idea on a small stove. Anyone who decides to use a hacksaw to cut the threaded stock, be sure you put a nut on it first, then if you get a not-so-perfect cut, you can back that nut off the threaded stock and it will realign the threads enough to get a nut on and off in the future.

I used the larger stainless dog bowls from Dollartree to make an oven and a fire pan for baking. Their smaller bowls are great individual dishes/saucepans. But, now I want to build this stove! What a great idea. Thanks for sharing.

I don't know if someone's already mentioned already this but to increase stability you could put in a 10 or 15 degree bend in the threaded rods below where they come out from the dog pans then point the bends out from the pans.

You'll go through less fire wood if you limit air flow into the bottom of the stove. I would take the scrap piece from the bottom of the bowl you used to create the sliding window, put a bolt through the middle of that and the bowl with the perforated bottom, then drill holes through both to match the pattern that you already have. From there, create some sort of handle that either becomes out of the gap that's already there or through a hole in the very bottom bowl so that you can rotate it to choke off some of the air flow. Overall, this is a fantastic design though.
@QuietNerd

Yea that would be a great upgrade for sure I wish I kept the bottom of the bowl I cut off lol that be the perfect part for it. Oh well Maby for version 2.0 - Cheers!

You can also slow the wood flow by using a chimney that they use on these modern wood stoves.. burning the smoke creates more heat with less wood. 73
@ahayseed654

@@ronb6182 You must mean a damper .
@DeliberateNRandom
Жыл бұрын
And you could use the ring for the feet so they don't move. Definitely larger than an ammo can. Probably a bit more expensive. Using the scrap piece would save you from needing a 4th bowl, but having the bowl is probably better for the leg stability, and safer in case you touch it. I bet you could use longer all-thread and use plumber's tape at the top for cheap handles and something you can set things on and not touch the heat, like warming your socks.
@ronb6182

@@ahayseed654 no it's more like a catalytic converter on a car. The new stoves are required to have them on the stove. Some people don't like them but they burn more efficiently put out less smoke. I will have to look up the video and see what they are called. But for simplex on your stove just put a damper instead of all them holes. Then you can control the burn. I didn't intend to make things complicated. I do like the stove idea for outside camping I don't think I would try it in a tent. There are tent stoves with a safer chimney. 73

Hey, Great Job...!!! Just want to mention, IF someone hasn't... make your chimney pipe as tall as you can stability wise... and you'll create a strong draw on the air inlet side... and and have a cleaner burn also... damper is very necessary as mentioned often. Thanks for sharing your ideas freely...!!!
@RogueOntheRoad

The type of wood you burn will change the burn time from one type to another. Mixing hard wood with soft wood also changes how fast and hot the fire burns. Have a bottom damper is one way to control burn time but also placing a damper on the chimney will help control the burn time and amount of heat. Use briquettes on the bottom to have longer heat.

Super simple solution. Really nice. Another simple modification might be to put another flat disc about half-way down the threaded rods - it would add a little more stability, and give you a shelf below the stove to set supplies onto. Think I might have to build one of these.

Very cool! Definitely needs to be refined into v2, but construction/parts/materials - solid. There are already good suggestions in this comment section about choking the intake, the output, and other valid ideas, so I would just add - maybe do something about how wobbly it is. Perhaps shorten the threaded rods a bit, and bend them out like 20deg? The last thing you want, is for this thing to fall. Especially if you're using it to heat a tent. Thanks for the video!

@@QuietNerd I'm always sweating bullets with hole saw + sheet metal... Unless you got a drill press, sacrificial wood support and like 5 clamps it's a nightmare. I was spoiled at work tho, where we had a hydralic hole punch. You just drilled a pilot hole, set a cup below, punch tool above and threaded guide rod/puller thru pilot hole... *Pop!* Done. Perfect. Every. Time. (Or if you made many many holes you could setup the 40 ton excenter press, essentially a monstrous flywheel with a clutch. Press the clutch and *whammo* = whatever hole tool was shaped like penetrated most materials in a blink of a second)

Nice build. Simple. Functional. I suggest another bowl on the bottom of the burn bowl. Drill bottom holes in same spot as burn bowl. Instead of holes for the stand, drill several holes and make them into on continuous hole an inch or two long. This way you can slide the newly added bottom bowl to cover/restrict the airflow holes to limit airflow to control burn rate and temp. All that said. Nice build.

(if you’re wondering what, watch super troopers) Oh and I almost forgot to mention what a super cool build I like the shape and functionality. it’s nice that you can put the whole thread into the ground but since it’s so long and you have the fire pot still elevated it would be nice to see some thing in between the all thread that is coming down to act as a support for the legs I think the metal column supports that you have on top do a bit of that right the long all thread makes me think about those legs spinning and rotating in the whole thing collapsing. Maybe that’s not possible with this design. Super cool build.
