Wouldn't the thinner remove the previous coats of paint?
@quickkits
7 жыл бұрын
That's very true. You would have to use Humbrol acrylic 247, or seal the 247 colour with an acrylic varnish to make sure the thinner doesn't cause any damage (which I don't think I did, oops...)
@rurushu8094
7 жыл бұрын
Oh ok
@mariebcfhs9491
5 жыл бұрын
actually the paint would "die" if you left it dry for about 4-6 hours (with enamel, and 1 hour for acrylic), once it dies, thinner can do no damage to it whatsoever

It takes some time and practice but with enough time and patience you can make it look airbrush. I had to move a lot for college and didn't drag all my equipment along so I relied on hand brushing for quite a bit and you can come up with some amazing results. Keep at it, you'll get there.

thanks for this upload-the model came up very well. Do you always use acrylics?? Until now i have used oils-not sure why? tradition I guess. Acrylics are better as matt finishes I believe and they dry more quickly. Can I use your chalk wash technique over an oil painted surface?? I do use the pencil to highlight the panel lines-works well. Thanks again
@quickkits
8 жыл бұрын
Generally I use a acrylics for small details because they dry faster, but I'll use enamels for large areas because they take longer to dry which reduces visible brush strokes. Yup you can use the chalk wash on any kinda type of paint :)

Hello, I find you movies very informative and helpful. I learnt from you a lot. I am just starting my adventure with scale modelling. I did few models when I was 14 year old kid, but it was very unprofessional and I never painted my models. Hadn't got money for paint :) Now I am 37 and I want to start again :) Right now I am doing same focke wulf but arirfix beginner kit, which is slightly different. Have few questions, if you don't mind. I decided to use always acrylic paints and varnishes and always use only brush. No air brush or spray. In my opinion hand (brush) painted models have more value (not money kind of value, but the other value if you know what I mean). You always put some gloss coat (gloss varnish - is that the same thing? ) on places where decals will go. Instead of putting it only in that places can I put gloss varnish on whole model ? And than after putting decals can I apply matt varnish to whole model again. Reason why I am asking, I want all my model (I will be doing 2nd world war aircraft) to be matt, there is no place for shinny aircraft during war. But if I put gloss varnish before decals on all plane, will it ruin whole thing ? Does it make sense putting first gloss varnish and than matt varnish ? What will be final outcome ? Gloss or varnish or mixed ? I will be using Vallejo Varnish Gloss / Matt Airbrush Paint 17ml Bottle. Or you just recommend to do what you are doing, put gloss varnish only where decal should go and than mat varnish on the end. I've never seen on your movies how you apply mat varnish on models, I mean with the brush, liquid one. Do you always use spray ? Can you make one movie showing how to use liquid matt varnish to cover whole model on the end ? Thank you
@invincible6197
6 жыл бұрын
teddy81kain most people gloss varnish the whole aircraft before decals, so that's fine. but make sure to keep the varnish off the clear parts as it can make them foggy. I'd recommend gloss varnish until the model is very shiny, then decal, then a couple more coats of gloss to protect the decals from any weathering choose to do, then use Matt varnish to seal everything in.
