This should have been a drumvolution update but for whatever reason drumovlution never got the hype it deserved. Either way this is amazing. Turning off swing on certain channels and adding your own samples is probably the biggest thing drumvolution lacked. I think the only thing missing now is an export feature similar to Xln audio's XO. Where you can drag and drop selected tracks automatically into a wav file or have it automatically load your drum rack with the processed samples.

Hey Allan, thanks for your comment! Those two features you mention would indeed be very nice additions. Once we are able to make a Native Version of TRIAZ we can certainly look into these. Furthermore, we do see TRIAZ and Drumvolution as two very different products. Other than both creating drum drums, there is not much similarity. They are both driven by completely different sound content (TRIAZ being the more diverse collection - and featuring way more organic / acoustic sounds). In addition no code was used from Drumvolution in TRIAZ. It was designed from the ground up. The only real similarity is the way in which drum layering works. However in TRIAZ this is still quite different as we can now layer any sound with anything else (not just drum, layer, transient), and the UX is also quite different. If we were to have made this a Drumvolution update, it would have still cost the exact same amount - due to it essentially being a brand new instrument. I just feel that would have confused people a lot more since they are so different (and different sounding!). I hope this helps :)

@@wave-alchemy Nice try. It's clearly a high quality product, and I'm a big fan of both Drumvolution and Bass Synth. Triaz is on my wishlist. But nobody with a couple spare neurons to rub together is going to see Drumvolution and Triaz as being completely different. They're both Kontakt-powered drum machines. Different sound content, new UI? I should hope so, given you're asking Drumvolution users, who already spent $200, to spend another $200 - for another drum machine. You can layer different sounds now! Like you can in any standard DAW! Just saying, man. Come on. I already felt like DV users should be offered at least some kind of discount - at least if they purchased, say, in the last year or so (which I have). After reading your comment, I feel so even more strongly.

Thank you for the excellent tutorial on building drum patterns. One thing I was wondering is how do you go about creating drum breaks and such when transitioning between your bridge and chorus in more traditional music (like pop or rock for example)?

Phrasing in drum lines is great, especially if you want the drums to stand on their own w/o too much accompaniment. Ofc, if your role is to simply create the rhythmic spine for a track which will rely more on melodics to drive the track, too much character in the percussion will sometimes create problems. Often-times, depending on the endgame, less is more.

I saw Triaz a few months ago, but not sure how it fits into the drum landscape. There are so many drum sample players with sequencers, it’s tough to know which are best. XO seems to dominate with its cloud-like sample browser and everybody has ‘layering’ now, so what makes Triaz unique?

I know most of what you just showed me has gone over my head, but that's okay. Hopefully some of it has stuck and I'll remember bits at the appropriate time. What would be really really cool is if the people behind Triaz were to get together with the people behind XO. Triaz's sequencer looks more powerful, but XO has a unique sound browser that groups sounds by how they sound.

Very different. Primarily and most importantly, TRIAZ is driven by completely different, brand new sample content - 10,000 brand new drums (both acoustic and electronic), three years in creation! Along with sample import, much better and more intuitive workflow, a vast amount of presets (over 600), a much more in depth step sequencer, which Jeremy does a great job at showing off in this video, and much more :)
@alchemistrpm82

Very, very, very similar indeed. As you can see Wave Alchemy is happy to keep pointing out, Triaz is also an upgrade in almost every way. So in other words, sucks if you bought DV like we did!
@wave-alchemy

@@alchemistrpm82 Drumvolution is a completely different product to TRIAZ. For a start, the sound engine and sound library that powers it is completely different. You won't be able to recreate any of the presets from TRIAZ in Drumvolution for example. They sound very different. Furthermore, we used no code at all from Drumvolution when building TRIAZ, the engine and instrument itself has been designed from scratch. It shouldn't 'suck' at all if you own Drumvolution. TRIAZ cannot replace Drumvolution, it sounds different and they compliment each other very well. If you don't like the sound of TRIAZ for any reason, just stick with Drumvolution. The only similarity is that they are drum instruments and can handle drum layering via an XY Pad. Although TRIAZ even handles drum layering quite differently to Drumvolution too. I can go into much more detail if you like, but a simple list of obvious differences are: The main core of TRIAZ - i,e Sound Engine sample content and code is completely different and they sound very different Filters, all insert FX, Master FX are all completely different in TRIAZ Sequencer is completely different The way sounds are browsed and loaded is completely different The UX (user experience) and workflow is completely different The core functionality is very different - Drumvolution features macro controls, TRIAZ does not. TRIAZ features in-depth randomization features, Drumvolution does not. Drumvolution features a 'offset' layer feature, TRIAZ instead includes sample reverse You can import your own sounds in TRIAZ. In Drumvolution you cannot I could keep on going with my list, but these are the most obvious ones. I can safely assume that you don't own TRIAZ from your comments, and so feel free to reach out to us directly and I'll see if we can give you a copy for free, so you can see and hear for yourself.
@alchemistrpm82

@@wave-alchemy You assume wrong, my copy is bought and paid for. I didn’t get the 25% discount for owning either DV or Bass Synth either, because I bought them from Plug-in Boutique. They’re not in my Wave Alchemy account, which was never required to purchase or use prior instruments. I understand that Triaz is a unique product unrelated to Drumvolution. It was coded from the ground up, you can layer sounds, you get a large library of new sample content, etc etc. I’m not looking to make an argument. I think the point I’m making (and im not the only one) is fairly obvious. The end user doesn’t care if the coding is original. At the end of the day, the 2 plugins/libraries fill the same need. I wouldn’t want to try and convince a Triaz owner, for example, that they would gain much from also purchasing Drumvolution. Just saying. Im finished, I’ve already belabored the point. I like the damn plugin, anyway. Im a fan.

@@alchemistrpm82 Contact us via our website with your order details and I will happily refund you the difference, so that your total purchase price is equal to using the 25% discount you didn't receive. Unfortunately we are not able to contact customers from Plugin Boutique (as I am sure you can understand), but I am happy to offer you the same discount since you own one or more of our previous instruments :) my apologies for assuming wrong by the way! Thanks for the clarification. You are correct that the two instruments are based around drums and can be seen as overlapping. From our point of view however (having created the content for both), we see them as sounding very different - and sound is generally the primary reason why people own more than one of anything, right? Otherwise you'd just own one synth and be done with it. But this is of course not the case - they all sound different and have different features, and it's why most people own numerous synths or drum machines in order to get a different sound or workflow. This is our reasoning, and exactly how we feel with TRIAZ. I'm really not trying to cause an argument either :) I am humbly trying to put across our reasoning for what we did, in a clear and honest way. Another good reason we simply didn't update Drumvolution was that we literally spent a period spanning 3 years designing and creating the sounds for TRIAZ - this totaled an investment of close to £100K. If we were to have updated Drumvolution with these new sounds and features, the upgrade price would still need to be identical as the price we are currently offering TRIAZ for, for past customers. We'd also then have to increase the price of Drumvolution for non previous customers quite substantially in order for this to make any sense, which would have put it out of reach for many. There are a few reasons All this said, we plan to port TRIAZ as a native VST, and once this happens we'll actually be able to sell or give away Drumvolution as a sound expansion that loads directly into TRIAZ with a single click, with everything tagged and ready to go :). It will also enable us to simply release brand new expansions and build on TRIAZ over time very easily!
