Honoring Matilda Torres: a Mother, Educator, and Legacy-Builder.
Celebrating episode 2 of our Building Legacies Series - featuring our Mother's Day edition.
Matilda Torres was a high school teacher and counselor in Madera, CA for over 37 years. She was a Madera native and farm laborer, who used to her story of triumph to empower her students to discover and pursue their dreams! Her family, colleagues, and students remember her as an inspiration; Matilda was unwaveringly committed to the success of her students, working tirelessly to expose them to their own potential. She went above and beyond the expectations to serve each person she was connected to, students and staff alike. She is credited with the actualization of many students going on to become doctors, engineers, lawyers, and other types of professionals.
Her decades of passionate contributions are honored and memorialized in the “Choose Matilda” campaign and the naming of this state-of-the-art high school campus, appropriately called, Matilda Torres High School. The remarkable design by @dardenarchitects and incredible construction by @harrisconstructionco saw the project through to completion and involved the Torres family in every construction milestone along the way!
Thank you to the Torres family, Mr Torres, Steve, and Silvia. And both former student, Dr Oswald De Luna, and former colleague, Flo Chartier, for honoring her legacy.
