Check out this great video showing how power vacuum tubes are made. This is footage from the Shuguang electron tube factory where we see their EL34B tube during the bottle sealing phase. #vacuumtube #el34

This Beijing company makes good tubes, I followed the misscocept that the China made tubes should be changed for Russian, European or the new old stock Americans ones I swapped my 6J1 made probably in this factory for General Electric’s and the only difference is ever so slight the GE have more tops while the 6J1 are good all rounders with possibly more bass dare I say! 🤔

@Agent 036 NWO someone bought the machines. So who's making tubes right now? Russia and China. One of them have to have the machines

From what Ihave experenced is that Shuguang El34 B / STR tubes are designed for higher anode current such as 400-450 volts. JJ El34 can´t stand it as there are limited to approx. 350 V. But Soundwise (eather El 34 or El 84) I would go for JJ´s as there are very well balanced in my ears and a bang for the bug. Shuguangs El34 B have more low end and are more bassy....

Thanks for your comment but some correction is necessary. Essentially all EL34 tube types have a anode voltage rating of 800V. What differs a little is the screen voltage. Some are 400V, some 500V, and a few in middle somewhere. Our site has datasheets showing this for the majority. There has never been an EL34 variant rated for low voltage such as 350V.

Honestly, the Chinese tubes really arn't that bad, as much as i want to hate them, ive never had one ark, break, or loose vacuum, they sound better then I thought they would, very sweet non fatiguing as I'd expect from a tube, i have a budget chinese made fu32 amplifier, that uses the fu32 power tube, which is actually just a "chinese version of the rca 832a and russian gu32 which are both radio transmission tubes" it is used as the power amp stage, for the preamp stage it uses two 6j1tubes which is equal to the 5654, i have nos tubes for it, but ive ownd this amp for a year or so and it easily has over 400 hours of use on it, no issues what so ever, I'm also pretty hard on it always playing it just below clipping, a very clean sounding amp for 110 bucks, im sure the nos tubes that i have will sound better, but ill wait for these ones to die first... its hard to say what will be better, but its easy to assume that itll be the nos tubes, ive tube rolled gear before and always thought the nos tubes sounded better, but how much of that is my head fooling with me then the actual tubes themselves, ik nos tubes typically are built better as they were actually required in day to day life situation, especially the military stuff, but even so, these chinese tubes have been suprising me with their quality. I wish this video actually showed everything that goes into making these tubes, rather then just the very end of the process.

"...sounds produced by vacuum tube amplifiers is superior to ..." What a load of rubbish. Simple valves circuits introduce distortion into signals (soft clipping) & non linear operation. This can be remedied in the circuit design. (By design) Transistor circuits mostly don't. It's where HiFi came from. This also can be remedied in the design. Engineers try to minimise distortion not increase it, however it is easy to make a solid-state circuit sound like a valve circuit. It's a difference in preference not quality.

Yeah, I agree. But I am a huge nerd for vacuum-electronic devices, for example CRTs, vacuum tubes, Geiger-Muller tubes etc.

For true HiFi, modern transistor amps can't be beat, but for guitar amps it's the the way that valve amps distort that counts and they are all somewhat different. Quilter amps get damn close to the Marshall sound, and they are all analogue. Pat Quilter is a genius designer. People like the sound of valve amps, it's not true HiFi but if it sounds good, why not?

Looks like as time goes on, we might not have much of a choice. Much of the NOS USA, UK, German, and Japan tubes are depleted. Major complaints about the Czech tubes because their equipment is wearing out and having looser tolerances. The Czech preamp tubes are just not lasting very long. The Russian tubes are still good for the moment, but who knows how long until most of their equipment will wear out also. China looks like they are running newer equipment than Russia and Czech factories. If they keep improving on their manufacturing process as they have done recently, the Chinese tubes can be a great alternative to the Russian tubes. For now, I believe that the Russian version of Mullard and Tung-Sol reissues are the best 12AX7 preamp tubes for any V1. The Sovtek 12AX7LPS is the best Phase Inverter tube out there. As far as power tubes, I don’t know. Most are built to last a long time if you give them a touch of cold bias and stay away from red plating them. If your amplifier has no bias trim available, it is most likely designed to be in the cold bias side to make sure they last.

My mullard and sovtek lps had leaky grids. I installed some bugera branded shuguang tubes and they were actually quite good. I have had one bugera el34 fail before though.

marshall 1959 circuit with an attenuator. I must have gotten a bum tube. It was a standard el34. The logo became darkened after it failed, that means it must have overheated. But the bias was set relatively cold though. The remaining 3 tubes are still good.

if they are as good as JJ electronics you can toss them in the trash right away...not beacuse the "way they sound" (i am no audiofool) but because if you run them close to their max ratings for some amount of time they die extremely quickly...back in the day there were amps like my dynacord concert wich ran the output tubes way ahead of their max specs and yet the tubes lasted...now because i dont want to be anally raped by buying expensive as hell telefunken or mullard etc NOS tubes i had to buy JJ's and change the bias to a much cooler setup for them to survive some hours.

@Agent 036 NWO , the problem is, an output tube shorting out can cause major damage to the amp.

kzitem.info/news/bejne/xIiA33epZqicipw here is the amp on JJ output tubes the dynacord concert is a hifi amp, not a guitar one...but for example it runs the el84's with 400v at the plate and that exceeds the maximum rating of the JJ's wich is only 300v, also the plate dissipation is high from factory amp setup...telefunken tubes equipped the amp from factory and they lasted.. i am about to install 4 individual bias pots so i can fit non matched tubes, i have plenty of vintage non matched tubes to burn...if you tell me these shuguang tubes are good i may try them....i also never tried sovtek yet...
