The beginning moments of the Titanic sailing was so well done. The music, the movement of the image just made you feel prideful of her and the people who constructed such a behemoth.

In fact during the early parts of the video they were taking down old cranes to build new ones. The cranes at Harland and Wolff were too small for the construction of the Olympic and the Titanic so they had to be demolished. Once they were removed they had to set up the new cranes, and build the Titanic. It cost 7.5 million US dollars in 1912 which would be equal to 500 million US dollars today to build the Titanic. It took 5 years to build and sank in less then 3 hours.

"There was peace and the world had an even tenor to it's way. Nothing was revealed in the morning the trend of which was not known the night before. It seems to me that the disaster about to occur was the event that not only made the world rub it's eyes and awake but woke it with a start keeping it moving at a rapidly accelerating pace ever since with less and less peace, satisfaction and happiness. To my mind the world of today awoke April 15th, 1912." -Jack B. Thayer, Titanic Survivor

A nice reeneactment of the construction - Ive seen many photos off the Olympic Class vessels under construction within the great Arrol gantry at Harland & Wolff - this film seems to do a good job of showing how things were - however I do recall reading somewhere that (some) riveting work was done pneumatically but I may be mistaken.

To tell most people the truth Titanic was ahead for it's time. It had the latest 20th century technologies during it's time of building and construction. It even featured an elevator, and a more powerful telegraph engine. Titanic was also built for luxury and not for speed so also remember that too. The ship was ahead of it's time, but it was no match for the iceberg which brought her to her demise.

@Ralphlovs69cars The rivets in the front of the ship were weaker due to them having to be hammered in, since the machine that was used to put the rivets in could not fit in the space at the front of the ship. Those rivets were also made with a worse combination of slag...making them weaker.

Hi bailey heady, His Majesty's Hospital Ship BRITANNIC sailed on her 6th voyage to Mudros to collect wounded British soldiers.Off the island of KEA there was a tremendous explosion , causing the ship to sink in 55 minutes In the days leading up to this the German submarine U 73 was laying mines in the area, hence the belief that it was a mine which caused the sinking. The jury is out as to whether a torpedo could have been to blame.At the time Britannic was the largest ship afloat.

The Titanic would have survived the iceberg had it hit head on. The mistake was to turn away, trying to avert a strike which made her right side the target of the berg. Destroying the side as the rivets popped out one by one and the plates fell off. Inferior steel production techniques made the haul brittle and it broke like glass. Add this to the many mistakes made on that night...the ship was doomed. Ignoring ice warnings, not slowing down, two of many mistakes.

Titanic was the second of three Olympic class ships. Of the three sisters,Olympic collided with H.M.S. Hawke in 1911, rammed and sank the Nantucket Lightship in 1933 and was scrapped in 1935. Titanic sank on its maiden voyage in 1912, and H.M.H.S. Britannic hit a mine and sank in the Aegean Sea in 1916, during the second world war.
@America100000able

@eyesk8ter Yes they did. The Olympic was laid first. However both ships were built side by side with Titanic being laid down later in Harland, and Wolff Shipyards which is in Belfast, Ireland. A sad thing I have to tell you people though is Harland, and Wolff no longer build ships. So if any new Titanic or Titanic like ship is ever built it won't be done by the original builders. Harland, and Wolff only build windmills. Most ships today are built in Aker Yards.

@1makermovie No, the right one was the RMS Olympic, the big sister of the Titanic, Titanic was the second ship of the 3 Olympic class liners, the first one being named the Olympic second Titanic third Giganic (after the sinking of Titainc changed into Brittanic) They were almost identical to the Titanic as they were build from the same plans. Search for them on google to see the other 2.

The rudder was bigger on the Titanic than some ships bigger than her nowdays , they turned the rudder away from the iceberg and kept it there, if they had have turned away then turned toward the berg, she would have missed it and just remember, if she had not sank, we would not even know anything about her and the men who built her, master craftsmen

This is how you build a ship. in a slipway ribs then skeleton then skin. not modular blocks fabricated in some factory 2000 miles away. If you notice most Ocean liners of the era have that slight bend to the ship in the middle. also had they not used shit rivets the ship "MAY" have survived. Also interestingly White Star Line ships were never Christened like other ships. they are just launched.

TITANIC TRIVIA: Fourteen years before the sinking of the Titanic, Morgan Robertson wrote a novello, "Futility, The wreck of the Titan", in which he describes a fictional ship Titan,largest ship in the world and practically unsinkable.It was 880 feet long,and carried 3000 passengers. It also had a shortage of lifeboats and only a handful survived . a collision with an icefield in the North Atlantic, 400 mile from Newfoundland on a passage from New York to England in April of that year.
