so much negativity jeez. definitly not the most raw or affordable build, but that's the point. Nowhere in the title does it say budget or affordable, so dont treat it as anything like that. It's a culmination of years of offroading and colaboration between many companies. Although having a beer keg and a projector is way over the top, who cares. its his choice and if you got offered this opportunity there's no way you'd say no lol. Instead of commenting negativly out of spite or envy or just disgust at how expensive/over the top it is, just be happy for him lol. it's a pretty sick rig and who cares if the Amarok isnt the most capable, or affordable. at least its not another bloody 79 build. I think pat would be just as keen to go camping in a 1986 MQ with an old swag, as he would be with this. Get off your high horse and just let people enjoy this country how they want to. it's not your concern and it never was. Pat's just taken the time to share his build, which sounds pretty good to me. Just my 2 cents :P

What is the build price? as I am looking at a chopped 200 series and would like to compare my options. Is Adelaide the only place that can convert the Amaroks? Can you put a boat loader and tiny on top after the conversion? It is a beautiful build and some great ideas. I just think there could of been better use of space in the back.

With the rear axle shifted backwards, it moves much of the weight forward of the axle, so it's not quite what you might think. The eight speed auto and a Steinbauer chip handles the power just fine, and the Rok has a factory rear locker. No issues yet, that's for sure. Only time will tell I guess.

Here in Germany the Amaroks spent more time in workshop than on the road. So many issues.... not only trans or engine, but the smaller things that really bother. Window motors or better said the small plastic pieces on the mechanism that brake and leave you without a electric window, the electric seat adjusters etc. . It is built with a VW Golf Spirit. Hang on, you added a 650mm extension of the chassis, with all of the compromises on manuverability, handling and weight, to fit a beer keg in? Very cool build in lots of ways, but you've gone a solid step down in my books. And I'd be impressed if you got any change out of $100,000 for the build, after the Amarok...

If only we had this level of custom modification available in Fiji. I’ve got a 550 Amarok and this has inspired me to get some mods done when things get back to normal. Nothing up to this level but I definitely want to do it once and do it right here and get the details done properly as you have done here. Cheers from F1J1 Pat, all the best to all the other 4WD’ers doing it tough out there at the moment. Things will get better we just have to be willing to guts it out. God bless mate.

Pat Callinan's 4X4 Adventures.... cheers Pat. yeah that would be great if you ever made it over. would show you around some of the beautiful mountain treks we have inland. There are number of Rok owners here but not in the same numbers as your Hiluxes, Rangers, Prada’s, Landcruisers 79 series, 100 series, 200 series, Navarras, D Maxes and BT 50s. Amarok probably have the smallest segment of the market. But everyone who has one wouldn’t trade them for love or money.

You know what I would love to see someone (a 4WD builder) do, just once? Is put together a build and make the fullest effort to explain things in a way that someone with no experience can actually learn from it, they could always edit the video twice and release two videos, one including breakdown of all the jargon and acronyms and the other one excluding all that for the experienced 4WD owners / mechanics to enjoy.

Good point. being in the industry for the past 20 years, you tend to do this as second nature. My apologies, because my who reason for being is to inform, and to not scare people off with weird 'industry only' jargon. I'll keep this in mind

@@PatCallinans4X4Adventures cool thanks, it was just a generalisation across all of information platforms not just your channel, as I often find ''for beginners'' type posts / videos where the narrator etc still doesnt break it down for newbies like myself. cheers

I'd assume a gearing change happened to deal with the 35s but low range is essential and lacking it in a 120 plus grand rig is absolutely ridiculous

The 35-inch rubber and 3-inch suspension lift certainly helps. This is more of a desert / beach tourer than track mauler, so I'm happy with the result alan
