I got a 'discounted' quote for 3 fitted wardrobes that was over £12k and then I thought of doing this... turns out I wasnt the first :') There quite a few of these Pax Hacks out there, but this has been the most helpful. Great job! Will definitely check your other vids. Thanks!

These look good, but why leave the top exposed? That makes it look way less "built in". In reality, you should have put something around the whole thing, including the top.

Looks great. I'd be using that bottom part of your shelves on the side too put the laundry hamper. Might need to adjust the height of shelves, but on camera it looks narrow enough to fit. That would then free up space in the middle wardrobe

Firstly, I’d be adding a tiny handle to that bottom bit where the floating shelves are. Would make for an awesome hidey hole! Can’t think of what I’d put in there but it’s still fun to know there’s a secret spot for treasures. Secondly, if you leave the top as is you can store things above the wardrobe. Out of season coats or bedding. Nothing too heavy, but basic things will be fine. I recently bought some attractive (and inexpensive) fabric covered under bed boxes on Amazon and they’d fit perfect up there.

Did a similar thing with my kitchen. Had 2 second hand ones and painted to match even though they are solid wood. When designing, any small space was potential another wine rack - I have my priorities. Only actually ended up with one that hold 6 bottles.

A really good effort. For future projects use UNO walk plugs. Available everywhere they can be used in solid walls and stud walls. They have a very sizeable pull out force. I’ve used them for years even for rads and heavy duty fittings.

No we didn’t secure to base - I guess the base is just any other flooring for a wardrobe just slightly taller so no need ☺️ I think the most important bit to hold it all together is the backboard. Good luck!

Great video, we are half way through doing exactly the same, we've bought all of our wardrobes off of FB market place, we've even cut one 50cm wardrobe down to fit under our slopping ceiling, (cutting a triangle off the top of a door to make fit,) our doors are a mix of oak veneer and gloss/plastic coated, so not matching in colour or finish, all are flat i.e not shaker style like yours, so my plan now is to glue and brad nail some 2-3" 6mm MDF strips to each door to make them shaker style, and paint them (if i can remove the plastic coating that is, tested them with rustoluem cupboard paint and it just rubs off, any ideas?) otherwise i'm thinking about glueing some wallpaper in between each shaker gap to cover the bright white gloss. We also have 1 mirror door, i'm hoping to make this shaker style too, by just glueing the strips to make them all look cohesive. Best laid plans and all that!

Hi, nicely done! I have to put some wardrobes together and I was wondering how much space did you leave between the wardrobe and the window wall. We are going to have drawers so we need the door to open at least 90 degrees but I am worried I am not going to be able to do so if I put the wardrobe against the side wall.
@FeedbyAutumn
2 жыл бұрын
Thanks! I think you need about 80mm as the door needs to open further than 90 degrees and you have to take into account the handle. We learnt the hard way that we were not able to have drawers as we had it too close to a radiator. Good luck!

Hi, great job! I have a couple of questions if you don't mind. Did you screw the wardrobes to the base? Did you also screw back of the wardrobes to the wall? I'm thinking of doing this and was unsure if this needs to be done to keep them sturdy and not wobbly. Thanks
@FeedbyAutumn
Жыл бұрын
Thanks! No the wardrobe just sat on the platform - just like it would on the floor. We didn’t screw to the wall but no harm on doing this. The wardrobe is stable when you put the backboard on. We have had no issue with it - it’s been very sturdy

@@FeedbyAutumn Thank you for your response. How do you feel with this ceiling height? Does it feel normal? We are getting our loft conversion done too and our ceiling height is exactly same as yours. Also how is the temperature in the loft bedroom during winters? Do you need lot of heating or is it better than downstairs? I heard it could get really hot during summers but not sure how winters feel? Thanks again for your video and response!
@FeedbyAutumn
2 жыл бұрын
2.2m is fine - doesn’t feel small at all. Tom is also 6”4 and says it doesn’t feel small. It is definitely the most insulated place in the house which is nice - when the heating goes off it remains warm up there. If installed properly insulation should keep it warm in the winters and cool in the summers - nothing to worry about I would say. It may be slightly hotter than the rest of the house as hot air rises. Good luck!

for the base: did you plane the timber board so that all of the edges were flat or did you use it exactly as it comes from a hardware store? i don't have a table saw so I don't really have a way to plane it and I'm wondering if it'll be off balance if I don't plane it.
