These motors always sound like they have their big end bearing flogged out. Mines the same.

On my engine, only the blue wire is connected on the temperature controller. The red wire is gone completely, not even sure where it's supposed to come from. The pin is also broken off from it. Not sure if that's bad? (What a terrible positioning anyway. Anytime you have to work on this engine, it's impossible to avoid leaning or pulling on those cables.)

As I sold this engine some years ago I don't remember all details anymore. However, the thing is a VDO temperature switch 14x1,5 - 80° C. I know this exactly as I also once broke one pin and found the order... As it is just a switch it definitely should have two wires, otherwise you dont't get a signal when temperature is exceeded...

@@_Souki Thanks for the advice. I can buy a replacement sensor, but I guess I'll have to do some magic to figure out how to connect it.

@@TobiasSchmidt82 According to the manuals found in the internet it seems that the DV10-LSME model uses a one pin sensor whereas the other DV10 models a two pin sensor. Thus my installation seems not to be straight and your version seems to be the right one anyway. I remember that my new sensor did not fit into the hole and needed some modification..... However, if engine becomes too warm the temperature switch switches and connects the (single) wire with the ground and the alarm should go. You can test this by removing the wire and hold it against any blank metal on the engine. If alarm comes your wiring is correct and just the sensor has to be tested and/or replaced. You can test the sensor in cooking water and measure if it opens and closes...
