My grandfather.. .. Bukka White played for us whenever he came home to Aberdeen, MS... my sisters, brother, an I would dance, dance, dance. Sometimes the world don't give back to people who greatly deserve their shining star until they are above them. R. I. P. Big Daddy

The album this is of of is the hardest and heaviest 'accoustic' album in existence... makes a lot of heavy metal sound limp. Like he's just slamming that resonator upside u head. One of the true originals of American music.

Bukka plays, Skip thinks "I hate this country bottleneck sound: just let me play with my superior fingerpicking style". Son just thinks "I would kill a newborn baby for a drink, now".

what amazes me most about the oldtime blues masters (bukka himself, son house, blind lemmon, etc) is how they managed to sound like a whole band with just an acoustic guitar-dobro
@fuzzface8252
4 жыл бұрын
That's a National, not a Dobro. National was first, then the Dopyera brothers left National, and created a wood bodied resonator with an outward facing cone, and advertised it as being louder than a National. The thing is, John Dopyera continued to hold stock in National, while running Dobro, in 32, he bought National.
@bradkelley8732
Жыл бұрын
@@fuzzface8252 I always think of a Dobro as not being playable by fretting, that the action is too high, so it's usually played on one's lap, or with the top facing up. All the Nationals I've seen had high action, for slide, but were frettable. Is that how you think of it?

Bukka was BB King's second cousin, you know. Amazing that the same gene pool could produce two such radically different performers. I used to perform songs like this in the mid 1970s in a coffee shop in town every Wednesday night, along with more up to date material of course so they'd have me back the following week. Having that slide guitar was handy too. One night I went straight from 'Broke Down Engine' to 'Long Tall Glasses' by Leo Sayer when someone in the crowd yelled for it.
