I have been to many countries in that region, Greece, Turkey, Serbia, Macedonia, Montenegro, Bosnia, Croatia, Slovenia, Croatia and more. And yet, I feel deep down that once I get to Bulgaria (which won't be long) it will become my favorite.

Miroslav Marinov A very fair question and, yes, of course I loved Croatia (a sublime few days on Mljet, Plitvice, Istria Peninsula). The difference with Croatia, I feel, is that it's been discovered and the prices were much higher and the places more crowded. We left Croatia early to spend more time in Bosnia. I will return to Croatia, but hopefully not in the summer.

haysnoe Me, the opposite, I would love to go to Serbia, and I have only been to Bulgaria (of the Balkans area). I lived there for one year and I can only tell wonders about it. Not so much the landscape or the cities, but the people and the art. I highly reccomend :) Go to Sofia, Bozhentsi, Veliko Tarnovo, Plovdiv and Nessebar (this last one is a true wonder!!!). You can either do winter sports in the mountains surrounding Sofia or put your swimsuit on and go to the Black Sea coast. At first, it may not look like, but believe me, Bulgarians are the most friendly and kind people in Europe.

Okay, all Bulgarians now: I need your help! What's the name of the first song by Nina (starting around 03:13), please? I don't speak your language and I can't extract anything from the lyrics. If anyone could help me please that would be great. Thanks in advance and greetings from Germany :o)

It is called "Bella sum bella yunache", which means "I am beautiful, young lad"! It's a song from the Rhodopi mountains. Everyone in the Rhodopi villages knows this song :-)

Lyrics: Bela sam, bela, yunache, tsela sam sveta ogrela. Edin be Karlak ostanal, i toy ne shteshe ostana /2 am beshe v mogla yotonal. V maglona nishto nemashe. Lyu adno vaklo ovcherche, sivo si stado paseshe, s sheryana gayda svireshe. Very old Bulgarian dialect from The Rhodopies mountain in Southern Bulgaria-that is Bulgaria prettiest mountain, especially the Western part. Bela sam bela means in old Bulgarian pretty, as exactly the meaning is white but in this case is much more like pretty than white-that language was used a while ago, that pretty that everything around is shinning. The rest is about a shepherd that was playing his bag pipe in the mountain fog..Bulgarians bagpipes are a bit different than Scottish. It reminds a little bit of Mel Gibson Brave Hearth movie idyllic. That is the unofficial hymn of The Rhodopie Mountains.

Dirbg.us Thanks for this detailed info. Unfortunately I'll have only 2 days in Sofia again this year.Bulgaria (and Romania as well) are still very unknown countries to me - unlike Greece for instance.I came to know Bulgarian girls over there on Crete.I can speak Greek and read and write it but still I can't read Bulgarian.I think your language belongs to the slavic language family. If bela means "white" it is like bily in Czech or bialy in Polish - meaning white as well.If I can afford it I'll plan a tour through the Rhodopies next year.Greetings to Bulgaria or wherever you are. And does anyone have a clean mp3 of the very first song in the video? I've never heard that combo of pipe and beat, it's great :)
