I make nozzle holders for oddball sites at work. I use 2 inch flat bar bent twice to form to the nozzle. I weld a small piece of 2 inch channel on the bottom (flat side down) for the handle end to rest on, and add either a half link of chain welded on if they want it lockable, or a 1/4 bolt that slips in the same slot on the nozzle handle to keep it from sliding out. For the spout I use a 4 inch long or so piece of 2 inch square tube capped on one end, welded to the flat bar. That keeps junk from getting inside the spout. The flat bar ends up vertical above the channel and is perfect for mounting it to a post or whatever you like. Ours usually end up on a piece of uni-strut with a floor mount. I had a nice jig made up for the bends until someone decided they needed some small pieces and cut it all up. We do installs and spill cleanups at work (well I am the mechanic there but that is what we do) I'd recommend a concrete pad for filling on. (expensive I know) You will end up spilling some, and it is much easier to clean it up off the concrete than the grass. A little doesn't really matter, but if you have a big one, (failed auto shutoff nozzle for example) you don't want that getting into the soil. We only install double wall tanks these days with vacuum monitoring between the inner and outer layer. It is nice peace of mind to be able to look at a gauge and know your tank is in good shape. Just something to keep in mind for the next one if it is in the budget. It's a shame you have that one on-road vehicle or you could buy coloured fuel and save a bit of money.

Good move! Have had them for a few years myself now. I do recommend setting the barrels on railroad ties long term to keep the moisture away from the bottom, they can rust out eventually if placed on the ground directly. Benefit of the ties you decide to move them they can go with the barrel(s)

That’s a very cool set up. You can generally get a better fuel price when buying in bulk from delivery companies. Definitely would recommend building a cover over it to help prevent rain water infiltration into the tank. Water has a way of getting into tanks with driving rains. As you know, we have been getting some serious rains around here lately.

Since you have a plug on the low end of your tank - it would be very convenient to have a ball valve at that location with a plug in the outlet end of the ball valve to make it easy to bleed off some fuel to make sure you don’t have water in the tank.The biocide is a good choice as well. I have fuel tanks as well - much better than hauling fuel in 5 gallon containers.

Ask your distributor if they will allow you to Pre-Buy your propane fuel. My buddy up in MT buys 1000 gallons when prices are at the low end in the off-season and then they deliver as needed. That way in the middle of winter if you run out they just charge a delivery charge and you don't have to pay the high end of the market prices. They store it for you. I wonder if you can do that with the diesel fuel.

@TKCL

All is same price as daily at the pump, I get bulk discounts on propane. Last I remember the road tax is around 70 cents per gallon. The non ethanol we plan to get we can deduct the road tax credit at tax time that's built into the fuel. I will ask my CPA if I can do the same for my diesel and keep track of what goes where.

So did you mean that you could not technically get Red diesel simply because you now own the on road capable Mahindra? If so why could you have not continued to fill that up from your truck tank which you obviously historically have purchased green fuel from the gas station. Seems like an awful waste when 99% is legitimately off road except for that one vehicle .... I think??? I know it's $1,000 fine if you cheat and get caught but if that is the only one it doesn't make sense to me what am I missing?
@TKCL
8 ай бұрын
Truck stays under barn and rarely leaves, not at all convenient to fill the Mahindra with. Mahindra currently is my most filled machine, so the easy to access tank and fast pump is nice! Plus I need to keep using the big tank to avoid the yearly tank rental fee, I could and will fill the truck tank out of it when needed.
