This loss was very heartbreaking to watch...it had me for the first time and only time questioning whether Michael could still dominate the game or was his time passing. Nick Anderson even made a slick comment following saying MJ wasn't the same player but of course in typical MJ fashion he shut everyone up with a solid performance the next game and went on to win three more trophies while Nick Anderson went on to miss four FTs in the Finals and got swept in the ECF in following year

I disagree with Bill Simmons when he claims that the 1993 NBA Playoffs was the best postseason. In my opinion the 1995 NBA Playoffs was the best postseason of the 90's because you had so many memorable moments and unforgettable game winning shots and the Houston Rockets were defending champions and no one expected them to return to the Finals and they did it. Also, NBC's tripleheader on that day was perhaps the best line of games assembled with Reggie Miller's 8 points in 8.5 seconds to stun the Knicks, then the Rockets coming back down by 6 with 5 minutes left to upset the Jazz, and then Nick Anderson stripping MJ from behind capped it.

Hard to compare playoffs of different years, but you're right about that day's lineup Disappointed the Bulls lost, but glad Horace Grant was difference maker I'll never understand why Jerry Krause didn't appreciate him. Grant a different type of power forward than Dennis Rodman, but every bit as valuable without the baggage.
@meharinationsportspodcast2582
9 жыл бұрын
Jason Richards To answer your point on Grant, he was going to leave Chicago anyway. Not just because of Krause, but because he and MJ didn't really see eye to eye a lot. Although Grant respected him as a superstar, many times in practice MJ would verbally abuse his teammates and Horace wasn't any exception. Horace took some of that stuff personally which finally drove him out of Chicago. But, this was the tip off of the iceberg of Krause relationships with the team. Jerry Krause had huge animosity towards Jackson, MJ, and Pip because in people's eyes they were given more credit into winning 6 championships. What most Chicago fans don't realize, that he was the most valuable asset because he spent every season evaluating talent to build a championship team. He was the man who hired Phil Jackson in 1990, he made the trade for Cartwright in exchange for Oakley, and finally the draft rights of Pippen from Seattle and drafting Grant was all done by Krause. I felt his best move of the dynasty he trading Purdue for Rodman which led to an historical season. My point is, without a GM who had the superior knowledge then Chicago wouldn't have any championships. You can say it for any team in all sports. This is why Phil Jackson and Michael Jordan are struggling as executives because they're not willing to scout talent and put it the true work into team building.

Blueblur22 I was just speaking on the entire playoffs in general. But, you're right, the Bulls weren't even close to being synic considering that MJ just came back and no Horace Grant to control the rebounding. That's why the Rodman trade was a risk worth taking. Also, the Bulls didn't lock in on Orlando's 3pt shooters and they had time to hit some 3's. But in the end, the Bulls learned their lesson and next year they wiped the floor with Orlando.

And we had the chance to watch him write history for the next 3 years 96,97,98. If he had won this game might as well won the series..and maybe the 1995 title..and maybe at the end of the 95 finals he would have announced his 2nd retirement from the game! Jurassic Park was a HUGE deal back then, and this was the network TV debut of the movie. It was to have started at 8PM Eastern but this game ran long until around 8:15 which is why NBC had Marv keep mentioning it, and also why Marv signed off immediately after the game ended. The movie ended up with something like a 36 rating which is close to Super Bowl territory in TV ratings.

You have to look at it within historical context: in the 90's, the Bulls had the best team in the NBA. No other team by then had the 1-2-3 punch the Bulls had. If you say Magic and Bird had more help, well that means that's how much it took to win in the 80's. Losing Grant was enough for the Bulls to fail in 95. Don't believe me? Grant averaged 18 pts and 11 rebs in this series. That's what the Bulls missed. It's why Rodman was added the next season, to revitalize the Bulls at the PF position.

I remember Hollywood Hulk Hogan making a much surprising guest appearance in this series in Orlando that actually coincided with his switch over to WCW and the beginning of that era. immediately after Jordan goes to the bench and wipes his face it almost look like his mouth wide open but he played it off with the wiping of the towel over his face. Man what change of events and momentum which took place here from the awesome alley-u Kokuc to a flying Pip out of nowhere that silence the furucious crowd momentarily to the ensuing play of a steal to the ensuing play of the pick pocketing turn over to the hammering down exclamation duck to seal the deal with the former bull Grant who was a monster the whole series and just a lights out from 15-18 feet out. I do agree that set back was actually a set up for M.J to come back with full vengeance and rule supremacy for the following 3 seasons.

The old "MJ wasn't himself in 95" argument is the biggest mythical piece of crap excuse in history. 95 playoffs: 31.5 ppg on 48.4% shooting 96 playoffs: 30.7 ppg on 45.9% shooting Gee, look at that. He performed much better in 95 when "he wasn't himself" than the next season when he DID play a full season.

@Robert Johnson You're another clueless normie that's never played structured ball. PPG and FG% is the extent of your inkling of basketball. But you are right, they also didn't have an answer for Horace Grant - *BECAUSE THEY DIDN'T HAVE A TRUE PF* genius. Michael Cage was their next choice if they didn't get Rodman and they wouldve won with Cage just the same, like they did in 1997 with Brian William and Jason Caffey when Rodman was recovering from knee injury and didn't contribute much in the playoffs. But as a normie, you probably don't even know who Michael Cage is. In 1996 MJ missed a week (1 practice and 2 games) settling his dad's estate or something and came back rusty for two games - now let's talk not playing for almost 2 yrs and coming back for just 15-17 games left in NBA season and you want to tell me he was in his usual basketball form. *Aside from you never having actually played bball, are you really that stupid?*

I never even knew about this. I thought Jordan was in retirement between the 93 finals win and entering the 96 season. Weird no one ever does talk about this. So when did he come back? Like halfway thru the reg season or did he get there during the playoffs? I suppose people think it's a stain on his great legacy but it's not he still played great and it was close enough that the bulls coulve gotten to the finals that year but sometimes one bad play or mistake or missed call can swing a game or series when it's close like that. MJ still my guy. But Damn some LeBron haters have buried this footage in the bowels of the internet and tried to erase it from history. But it's weird bc it actually makes his story almost better having come back to beat the magic in finals the next year and it shows his human side as well. MJ held himself to such a high standard though I know he hated this game. He prob still has nightmares about anderson getting that steal. I can imagine Jordan walking around to this day looking over his shoulder all the time thinking someone is gonna steal from him

Except for '91 & '96 the Bulls beat the best that the Western Conference had to offer. You can't fault them for that. All that you can do is beat whoever's put in front of you, & the Bulls did that 6 times & won 3 of those titles on the other team's home floor.

DUDE, his timing, dribbling and anticipation was off... thats not nitpicking, thats fact. he should have never taken those years off. he was never the same player again.

Rookies mistakes by Jordan, even him can't be the best player again, after 2 years of leaving...

The bulls should have in bounded the ball at half court. You always do that at the end of a game.

he really wasnt himself.. his timing and dribble was off.. In fact, mike was Never himself when he came back from baseball... he was the best player in the world when he came back still but he was several steps behind the jordan pre baseball, even while 3 peating the 2nd time.
