I've often wondered why the second hand seems to have a bit more of a stutter to it than a regular Precisionist.
@iHaejeog
5 жыл бұрын
I think it's to conserve the battery on the watch. The seconds hand does tick at 2 beats per second rather than most quartz watches that tick at 1 beat per second. I'm guessing the battery can get drained pretty quickly from constantly leaving the chronograph on and having to power a continuous sweep seconds hand. This watch isn't a part of the Precisionist line, but it uses the movement that was formerly known as the "Ultra-High Frequency" (UHF) movement. Nowadays, the movement was renamed to the Bulova "High Performance" 262 kHz quartz chronograph movement. The chronograph watches in the Precisionist line do have a sweeping seconds hand, but that hand also doubles as the chronograph seconds hand that ticks at 1 beat per second when in chronograph mode.

I had the original Bulova moonwatch on bracelet a couple of years ago. On my flatish 7" wrists there was no overhang but the all dial watch was too big looking for me. Imho you need a larger than 7" wrist to pull it off . Although I asked others in real life what they thought and they said it looked appropiate, so maybe I just overthink these things.

I had the original Moon Watch (now rebranded as the Lunar Pilot, probably because Omega complained) and liked the look, but found two big issues. 1. It's too big and flat. Even though I have a 7-1/4 inch wrist and have no problem with a 44 mm Sumo and a 45.5 mm Planet Ocean, this watch just wore humongous on my wrist, with lots of overhang. 2. Light reflections were terrible on the crystal. My understanding is this Gen 2 PVD version has improved AR coating, but that is only based on a few reports from some owners. I always had to turn the watch away from light sources in the room in order to read the dial, which I found annoying. I like the idea of the Bulova Moon Watch as the back story about its use on the Apollo XV mission's third lunar EVA is very interesting, particularly to Space Geeks like myself. But the original watch had a manual-wind mechanical movement and the case was a good 3 mm smaller in diameter. This watch is more of an impression of David Scott's prototype watch than an actual reproduction or even an homage. Still, not a bad watch for the price and the 262 kHz movement is HAQ-level accurate.

I just got this watch, so naturally I had to go online and blurt about it. I was attracted to the black version for the reasons Rob mentioned. Not counting the crown, it's no wider than a G-Shock square, by the way. Wears fine on my 6.75" wrist. The quality of the watch is fantastic. I looked at as many affordable chronos as I could, concentrating on mecha-quartz. I didn't want their chromey bling, nor their useless 24hr timers. A "40mm case" doesn't erase those mistakes. Seiko _does_ have a 12hr totalizer dial with the 8T67 movement however. The SS269 and SSB267 use it "but they're large" (44mm) watches compared to the better known SSB031/SSB025 that lets you time the chrono for an entire day. For some reason. I'm even better with the Bulova being limited to "just" a 1 hour totalizer dial.

Breitling sell dinner plates with watchfaces on them, they've done brisk business for centuries with watches costing 20 x that of a Bulova. So I dont get why are so many moaning about the 'enormous' size of this Bulova?? Its almost the same dimensions as the one that got a joyride on the moon. But its also a tool watch, with a beautiful big highly legible face, and perfect for busy people to glance the time. It only cost a few hundred $, so if you have wrists as thin as minestrone just wear the damn thing over a smart black tennis wristband and be done with all the moaning or move on.

The watch is 45mm from to the crown, but the dial is only 41mm. On wrist the watch looks smaller and pretty much a perfect size. I really like the black, but I bought the bracelet model. Unfortunately they can’t really go any smaller because it would start to become cluttered and illegible, and it’s borderline as it is. If I could pull it off, I’d definitely go with the black too, but it’s just too big for my little 6-1/2 inch wrist. I do have a Bulova Telluride with that fluid seconds hand which gives me a little Spring Drive flavor. For the price, it’s crazy accurate. I think I’ve lost maybe 3 or 4 seconds in a year, but that includes resetting for DST so maybe 3 or 4 seconds every six months.

I'm thinking about getting one of these, but can't decide which to get. Black or stainless (and which stainless, as I hear one version is polished and one is brushed), date or no date. Special edition or standard. Too many options! People also say it's really big, but that doesn't daunt me. I wear a Seiko SUN023 on a nato strap on my 6.5" wrist (48mm case width and 50mm lug tip to lug tip). THAT'S a big watch, but I think it wears fine. I enjoy wearing watches with a lot of wrist presence, so I think any of the Lunar Pilots would work for me. I'd wear it on a leather strap of some sort most likely.

@@mediastarguest all I’m saying is that watch size preferences are relative and very subjective. I wear sizes ranging from a 36mm field watch to a 55mm Mudmaster, but most of mine are around 42-44mm. I’m guessing a 45mm on me will wear like a 40mm on you, so I get your point. There are a lot of great watches out there that are 40mm or less that don’t suite me. That’s just the way it is. Some brands have multiple options though...like Omega with the Speedy reduced.

@@ash9058 Point taken but there are NOT many sharp-looking divers on the market that are 40mm and with a lug length of less than 48 mm. I have a beiatiful 44 mm Raymond Weil Diver but its lug length is 48 mm so I can get away with it. I've been recently looking at Glycine, Hamilton, Seiko, Orient and Mido automatics - 200m divers and 100m aviator models - ALL are at least 43 mm plus and most have 50mm lugs. It's not so much the case diameter that matters but more significant is this trend for huge 50mm + lug length that makes the watch overshoot an average 7 inch wrist. The great-value and handsome Bulova Moon at 400 euros is out of my spec range - 45 mm case and 50mm lug length size is way too big for me. 25 years ago a 40mm case diameter was considered big. The classic Rolex Sub on a chunky bracelet has never been bigger than 41mm. Kudos to you though, having an 8-inch wrist gives you so many options.
