Classic Nike's on the kids, jeans pulled up to their waist, vintage Camaro RS, cabooses, hooker red nail polish, and griswold signals! Thanks for posting this museum piece!

Most Regional Shortlines use them still. I used to live in Romeoville, IL and Elgin, Joliet, and Eastern still use cabooses today

@charlieb640 I agree that ALL crossings can't have the whole package once it comes to pedestrian protection because the roads that only have the crossbucks don't have much traffic. But, the thing is, communities DON'T buy the grade crossing systems, the railroad companies do. And, even if all grade crossings had all the bells and whistles, some people (I know a bunch) will still heed the warnings to try to save a few minutes. But eitherwise I agree with you on that basis.

Those were the days. F45's, SD45's, Big GE's and F-unit helpers. Trains still crossed the Mississippi River in Minneapolis on the Stone Arch Bridge. BN used SW1200's at Northtown yard. Boxcar railroading was still alive and well.

5:48 is awesome... too bad there's no trackage downtown across the NP #9 or Stone Arch bridges, since the new Minneapolis train station doesn't allow through-routing of Amtrak or Northstar Commuter trains from St Paul to the north via Minneapolis

Great video. Does a good job of showing the greatness and danger of rolling stock. IMO the narrator sounds much like the one in the animated "Grinch Who Stole Christmas."

@charlieb640 I've met many employees of the Canadian National railroad on the Saukville sub, and they tell me that the railroad pays for the grade crossing signals. I was not implying that the employees themselves pay for them, that upper management has a budget on crossing repair. The CN keeps gates and other pieces of $250,000 warning equipment a few miles north of my home, so I know the railroad has something to do with installation and deinstallation of grade crossing equipment.

What we see at 5:06-5:09, are not safe. All crossings should at the very least, have signals.

Griswold Signals! Griswold Signals were mostly found in Wisconsin and Minnesota. Griswold Signals should be listed in the info so that people can find all the Griswold Signals on KZitem. That almost collision at 2:15 was based on many past collisions and predicted future collisions with auto and pedestrians. As interesting as the Griswold Signals were, the gates are needed on all four corners to keep people from running the lights.

Nice to see the Stone Arch Bridge being used in it's intended role. It needs $14 million worth of tuck pointing and the republican pansy-led Minnesota House would rather have this magnificent structure fall apart than do what needs to be done. Hill thought his works would last forever; he should have known better.
