Lineage Percussion performs Larry Baker's marimba trio, "Burn Green," live on April 6, 2016 at the UGA Percussion Ensemble Concert in Athens, Georgia.
Burn Green (2015) was composed for Lineage Percussion.
About his piece, Larry Baker writes the following:
"BURN GREEN (2015) is the result of several of my experiences with the Oklahoma University Band. There is, naturally, the infusion of drum cadences. One cannot escape those in marching band. There is also the coming together, sometimes sudden, and sometimes slow in forming, recognizable patterns on the field. While with the band, the Director took us to an amazing live performance by Buddy Rich. His half hour improvised solo during one of the pieces is something I will never forget. I have tried to mix all these elements in BURN GREEN. The structure of this work is improvisatory, organized similar to a child’s puzzle which places different heads, rotating to different bodies and rotating to different legs and feet. In the puzzle one may have all three areas form, say a frog or you may have the head of a dog on the body of a duck on the legs and feet of a turtle. The Performers move individually as well as together through the work, improvising in their own part while never losing sight of their companion’s parts, coming together many times from what may seem like complete chaos."
