Hi there. I finally made a set of concrete baffles for the F15s. Pretty simple form to build all things said and done, setting the threaded inserts to accept attachment bolts and making a speaker sized plug with a horn bevel we're the most challenging parts. They do sound good!

Hmmm...I've been thinking about making a baffle out of an old Silestone countertop ... just a little scared of the cutting process.

Interesting. Particularly your observation that a product is voiced with a particular tube in mind. I use all NOS Russian military and there is really not much variation. 6c33c, 6n2p & 6n6p pretty much all came from the same factory. I don't see much variation even in tubes produced 30 years apart. Also burn in has not seemed to be a big thing. I am sensitive to new caps and resistors but new these tubes do not change much. Perhaps the military spec made them consistent. When your cruise missile or Mig fighter depends on these things you work to get them consistent.

Yeah, its a very layered analysis. Conceputally, nos from the days of war or for military uses, I would hope the tube reliability and flow of current would need to be at the top of the controls that goes into them. What is very hard to know with NOS, is what was done to them when we acquire them… did they already run and burn in long ago? Did the materials get cryo treated at some point? All we know for sure, is they have been in the hands of a company or two in their lifespan… so there is a chance that they were sparked up at some point. Who knows. Other layer that complexifies this analysis, there are amplifiers on the commercial market today, that I have tube rolled various tubes brands, and there were barely any differences in sonic flavor. Then my brain remembers: Trying different cables (various materials) some make a difference some dont. Some make a difference and reveal sonic changes drastically when I swapped components in the chain. Some cables reduce the sonic changes I heard when swapping components when these cables were used… so I consider this in internal wiring used in component circuits. I also consider this with caps… transformers… etc Trying to document all this to have data to go on to make proper hypothesis is gargantuan before even considering adrquate contextual testing… not to mention human error in this level of complexity. Thanks for your comment! :)

@@hificave I typically get the 6C33C-B made in the Ulyanov factory. They are the high vibration variant and are marked with a blue stamp that shows they passed military spec. When they heat up the blue turned dark so you know if they really are NOS or previously enjoyed. I buy from the same guys who live either in Ukraine or Russia (before sanctions). The Russian guy lived in a town with a military complex, so I suspect they were going out the back door of a warehouse. The sellers always have a return address that is an old Soviet era residence. One batch was still sealed in the original factory paper boxes with the paper from the 70s starting to crumble. Interesting stuff.

Great job! It would be great if you continue that kind of deep diving in to how tubes work. I own tube amps (SET, PP) and nowadays only looking for new production tubes. I would love to see more detailed reviews of your tube experiences to learn more about that stuff. A step up will be the tube tester. Thanx a lot for your videos and passion! PS: Maybe you could do a review and comparison with LinLai tubes. Would be very interesting for me (because I own LinLai 6SN7s and 300Bs 😉)
