This was awesome! Especially being that I love both luxury and finance. It's rare to find media combining the two. Thanks for all the research and time you put into this 💫 I learned some new and useful things!

❤ I think LVMH already owns 20 per cent of Hermes. Can't remember if I heard you mention it.

Very interesting video. I've never taken a single business course, so thanks for this lesson. I do enjoy lay economics podcasts like Planet Money and Marketplace, and this video is a cool blend between that money talk and the luxury talk. I appreciated seeing in the reports the comparison to 2019, too, which was the last normal year. It looks like revenue for Chanel was even down in Europe in 2021 compared to 2019. Anyway, I have a question, if Company A has a lower increase in operating margin than Company B, but Company A has higher profit increase, is that because Company A has had a greater increase in sales volume? Thanks!

thank you for watching, I'm glad you found it interesting! so that's a good question and there could be multiple scenarios (if I'm reading your question correctly) - change in sales volume could absolutely be one scenario as to why the changes in different types of profit margins are not symmetrical (I didn't get too much into that in the video since we can look at gross, operating, or net profits), the company could also have changed their pricing, their SGA (selling, general, administrative) overhead expenses, heck maybe they're getting tax breaks because of new green initiatives they are launching, all of this could result in asymmetric changes!
