Note to anyone riding or driving on the Tail of the Dragon: STAY OFF OF THE YELLOW LINES. KEEP ALL OF YOUR VEHICLE AND YOUR BODY IN YOUR OWN LANE. It is infuriating and dangerous to come around a curve and find oncoming traffic in your lane.

I did a lot of motorcycling back in the 1970's, and I found the dragon by accident. I was touring in Cades Cove and took an obscure one lane one way dirt road out of the Park called "Parson's Branch Road". I found myself on the middle of the Dragon, riding a CB450. I also had a BSA 650, but the CB450 was more reliable, just as fast, and better on cornering. From that time on, I rode the dragon almost on a weekly basis, using it to gain access to more twisty southern Appalachian roads. I lived only 15 minutes away from the place, and had it all to myself. In mid winter I've ridden on the Dragon without encountering any other vehicles. I loved the place, it was practically wilderness and the scenery was breathtaking. I've only been back a few times, and each time I left feeling very depressed. Y'all have ruined the place and ya don't have a clue as to what it used to be. Until everybody is gone, I won't be back - there are plenty of other places to ride in the meantime.

Thought you looked like one of the more competent riders I've seen in youtube clips. Mainly a good line, correct speed going into corners, not straying over, and not gunning it as you come out of corners. Was surprised when he said you were going 57. But to those saying "bikers just want to have fun", the road is a public road with a lot of people on it with varying skills, whether they are in a car or on a bike. If there's been a lot of accidents caused by excessive speed on any road, and youtube shows this clearly for this road, the speed limit will come down and the police will patrol it to reduce accidents. Seems these changes have been brought on by the riders and drivers themselves

If you're GOING to speed on the Dragon, it's best to do it in the opposite direction. Most of the route is on the Tennessee side and, once you've scoped it out from NC to TN, you can ride back knowing you won't encounter any Tennessee troopers. Oh, and STAY IN YOUR OWN LANE!

I rode the Dragon in 1990, before before it is the zoo that it is now.. Beautiful Road. Unfortunately it's public which introduces all sorts of problems. Including trees which don't move a whole lot if you hit them at high speed. Do yourselves a favor. Every region of the country has world-class race tracks. Most of them offer opportunities to take your bike out and ride as hard as you want to your heart's content. Better yet take a class. You'll learn a lot more and be a lot safer than doing this kind of stuff on a public road. Plus you don't risk other people's lives in the process.

flcracker9 It was deemed safe by the DOT at the time it was constructed idiot, not just me. I've ridden the track as well, probably more than your sorry ass, but there's just a few things you're forgetting: it's not cheap, it's not convenient, and it's not on your schedule - you're limited to whichever days the tracks nearest you have events scheduled, unless you're baller enough to rent them out yourself ($$$$$). Take your rolling couch somewhere else, going slow is just as fun and scenic anywhere with trees. Don't have to park in the curves and get in everyone's way. They lowered the speed limits likely due to more traffic and more $$$. I'd wager that the majority of fatalities either involve far more than just speed (wrong side of the road, intoxication) or are significantly above either speed limit (85-90mph+). Either way, that's on the riders, not you - the vast majority of the fatalities would be in single vehicle accidents or the motorcyclist in collisions, not the car driver.

Those other guys should have tapped the tops of their helmets. That looks like a fun road, at least.

Advanced courses teach you how to stay in the lines and do the speed limit on public roads.

I got a ticket in that spot 4 years ago! Despite going nearly double the speed limit, it appears you were riding at a reasonable pace. You weren't wicking it up big time in the straights.

How did the audio not end up with all wind noise? My Hero8 would be all wind noise. Good video, unhappy ending.

Why nobody did not warn you from cop? Oncoming riders should blink with lights. They have seen that cop. We make that in Poland, though it is forbidden, but makes us happy to make cops work more harder.😂

dude!! I went last sunday, my first time.(8-28-16). exact same spot and the same Damn trooper got me 52 in a 30... should have watched this a week ago... btw the troopers voice got worse. he can barely speak now. guess years of yelling at speeders will take it's toll.

I bet they make a killing on that road. I can see both sides of it. They need to make money and don't want people killing themselves or others. Riders just want to have fun but often don't think of the consequences.
