@@JubyJub Hi. I've been using it for 2 years with no problems, jumped right in and never had a bad reaction. However, this is not the case for everyone, some people can break out (either from the high% niacinamide or the zinc), so I'd say the best thing is to mix 1-2 drops into your moisturizer for the first couple weeks and see how you like it. Overall it's a safe ingredient and that is a safe formulation, the worst thing that can happen is a little breakout but it goes away if you stop it. It's not like an acid or retinol or even vitamin C, it regulates sebum and it's soothing to the skin. Don't worry. 😊
@supritaroy7279

@@JubyJub I am also using this niacinamide and zinc serum from the ordinary for last 1 year. I have very oily acne prone skin and at 1st it gave me some breakouts. But the purging healed within 4 weeks and then i have started seeing good results. Breakouts have been significantly reduced and also the sebum production is under control. But no improvement in my enlarged pores.

@@supritaroy7279 Yeah, I have very large pores and I haven't seen a difference in that aspect either. The truth is, we have to be realistic; pore size is mostly genetic and it's not gonna change with any product, the most we can do is try to keep the pores clean so they don't look even larger. Niacinamide can help because it reduces sebum production and, by extent, the amount of sebum clogging our pores, but it doesn't do miracles... unfortunately. 😅
@Suzanne4415

@@JubyJub Niacinamide would be a super low concern active, I think they're more thinking of acids and retinols. My experience with putting 10+% on my face is I seemed to break out more & get some irritation. With less it's fine - underwhelming, but, fine :) 4% seems to be a sweet spot in studies. I'd try 2 drops of the serum on damp face, quickly followed by your moisturizer, cut back if u get issues.

@hannaelawil8793

In all honesty, you can’t blame Hyram or other influencers for not using chemical sunscreens. Hyram’s even said that he’s not sure if chemical UV filters are bad for coral reefs, especially because there are so many studies that contradict each other. Some scientists say that chemical sunscreens damage coral reefs, other scientists say that they don’t. Hyram said that just to be safe and until there is actual proof that chemical sunscreens aren’t bad for coral reefs, he wants to avoid them just to be safe. You also have to know that he lives in Hawaii, so he wants to be especially careful AND Hawaii is going to ban chemical sunscreens in 2021, because they’re “damaging” to coral reefs. If his state is completely banning chemical sunscreens because they’re apparently harmful, it would make sense as to why he thinks they’re damaging. Not to mention, a lot of newer sunscreens have recently started labeling them as “coral reel safe” which makes it seem even more like there are sunscreens that aren’t coral reef friendly.

@@hannaelawil8793 that's a very specific example. Also, a lot of skincare and makeup is labelled with all kinds of stuff. Eg- free from petrolatum (it's totally fine), free from Mercury (it shouldn't be in the product regardless of the label). Also, there's a way bigger narrative of chemical sunscreens somehow being bad or inferior when in actuality it's the opposite. Demonizing chemical sunscreens does people with a darker skin tone, such as myself, a disservice. I simply can't use a mineral sunscreen without it leaving a horrible cast on me and most tinted sunscreen don't run deep enough. I'm sorry but telling people not to use chemical sunscreens when for many of us it's the only option is not justifiable.

"People with darker skin don't need sunscreen" I hate everything about this! Your skin only takes longer to get damaged by the sun because it has more melanin to absorb the UV rays but that doesn't mean its not harmful! Many people still think they're good without it (which is so stupid because that's actually the most important step of a skin care routine when it comes to health!)

Remember: the Environmental Footprint (or under other names) was designed by industry to make environmental protection an individual thing; you personally will never reuse enough to make a difference. 100 people reducing won’t make a difference-not while industry goes on destroying and polluting. A mere 100 companies have contributed to 71% of global greenhouse gas emissions. Not to mention industrial factors like chemical pollution, deforestation/habitat loss, water waste, etc. All the CEOs, politicians, World Bank officials know this too. They talk about it, and talk about how they really don’t care about the planet or people, as long as they can make money. Right now, the wealthiest are planning for how they are going to live and maintain their wealth when climate change really becomes catastrophic and we lose access to secure water etc. They know they made this problem and continue to make it worse, and just want to find ways they can stay on top when their actions kill everything.

Fantastic video. One comment on the moisturizer with SPF vs dedicated sunscreen: I agree they are really the same type of product but I have found that most dedicated sunscreens aren’t moisturizing enough for my skin and most moisturizers with sunscreen have enough emollient/occlusive properties that I can’t manage to actually use enough of it before it feels too gloopy to get the full SPF on the label. So I’ve always used a dedicated SPF after my moisturizer. It’s a myth yes - but using just a moisturizer with sunscreen will only work if you are actually doing it correctly.

True?? 2) chemical sunscreen won’t work on top of physical sunscreen because physical sunscreen provides a barrier so chemical sunscreen would not be absorbed into skin. I usually put on tinted physical sunscreen in the daytime when going to work, but i reapply with chemical sunscreen when walking my little puppy after work. Great video as always containing valuable information. Here in Brazil, products labeled as sunscreens must have at least 1/3 PPD/UVA of the SPF, just like European regulations, but this rule doesn't apply to products labeled as SPF moisturizers, these products don't have to meet the 1/3 PPD/UVA requirement.

I died at the evolution myth 😭 I could have never thought that. Why would you expend so much mental gymnastics to avoid using sunscreens 😭
@donnaroberts281
4 жыл бұрын
As far as the evolution myth goes, I think people got it backwards. People evolved to have lighter skin as they migrated further away from the equator due to the need for vitamin D. Since people wear more clothes in colder climates, they get less sun exposure and so less vitamin D from the sun. Lighter skin evolved as a way to absorb more vitamin D in the limited time that sun exposure was possible.

Mich Ael As a fair-skinned person, I can confirm that there is nothing inherently better about any skin tone. It’s all perceived societal crap. The only thing lighter skin tones are better for is to line the pockets of companies that manufacture sunscreen. It’s really sad to see people use (mostly unsafe) products to try to lighten their skin because society teaches them to believe that lighter skin is somehow better.

Make a video about the reflect vs absorb thing. I'm tired of explaining to skincare influencers that both absorb and organic filters aren't the devil - in fact they provide protection against UVA1 which zinc oxide and titanium dioxide cant provide protection for. Also I can't stand how people support Skinnies sunscreen - a great sunscreen with bad marketing. They advise a pea-sized amount for the whole face, neck and ears!
@avalyn28

Zinc oxide does provide UVA1 protection and also some visible light protection. Zinc oxide is a full spectrum filter. It just doesn't achieve as high a rating as chemical filters.

I been think lately (because a use a quemical sunscreen that has alcohol, but has a ppd of 61) that not only most of this sunscreens have on their own moisturizing ingredients, but you also generally apply them over layers of skincare underneath, so the amount of alcohol that actually disrupt that barrier must be minimal, and then the alcohol easily evaporates from the formulation. So probably there's still no reason to fear alcohol in sunscreens. Plus your last video on alcohol confirms that there're minimal to almost no changes when applied directly to the skin and in higher percentages. 🤗🤗🤗 love your videos. Greetings from Chile. 🤩
