It seems like a lot of people here are forgetting what pride actually celebrates. Pride is about celebrating the people that were lost in the Stonewall riots and every riot and persecution the community has faced as a result of being non-heteronormative. It isn’t a celebration to celebrate being born gay or whatever, it’s a celebration that gay people and the community can openly be themselves without worrying about persecution, torture or executions, which have all happened throughout the years. There’s no straight history month or celebration because you have never suffered threats just because you were straight. You might have suffered as a straight person, but I can almost guarantee straight people didn’t have to fight for their right to be straight. People don’t walk into clubs and shoot up straight people because they’re straight, whereas there have been plenty of mass shootings in gay clubs and at gay people in general. And as a side note, just because you’re straight does not mean you can’t join in the pride festivities. I’m cis and straight and I always go to pride festivals near me with friends that are in the community, it’s not a no straight people zone, it’s a celebration that they’re alive and can live without the fear of their very existence being illegal or a target on their back.

To be fair there is an arguement that all sexualities including hetrosexuality have been represeed by the dominant groups to some level. I think we often dismiss them because they are the majority group but there are in fact arguements for both including straight pride as part of a sexuality pride (though Ironically most people who support straight pride wouldnt be happy with that) and increasing focus on mens month. are they really just parties though? parades started out as riots and protests and now a lot of them have sexual contents since the lgbtq community is kinda inherently sexual
@JedRayner
7 ай бұрын
@@vampirzz yeah, nowadays most of them are just parties. The origins and history of the Stonewall riots are certainly not forgotten, and there remains a kind of resistance element to many pride celebrations today. A lot of that resistance may be a kind of rejection of dominant cultural sentiments. In many ways, I feel what you see as borderline ‘protest’ behavior still remaining in pride celebrations is a lot of pent-up feelings of delight on a day to celebrate the hard won civil liberties that gay people have access to today… and to let loose. It’s a great way to meet people who you know will support you in equivocally, which is surprisingly hard to find in your everyday life, depending on where you live. The sexual nature of pride is often due to the intersection of kink communities, and the LGBTQ community at large. Pride parades themselves don’t inherently need to contain sexual elements, and it’s restrictive to believe that the LGBT community is purely sexual in nature. Same-sex relationships contain the same love (not only sexual love, but romantic love) that heterosexual relationships do. It is a celebration of that love. At its base, the LGBT community advocates for equal rights under the law for lesbian gay bisexual and transgender individuals. As in marriage and adoption rights. Visibility. I’ll give you this. Historically speaking, the widening of LGBTQ rights and a country tends to follow a larger, sexual liberalization and move away from sexually conservative purity culture. Perhaps that’s why you see many sexual/kink elements included in the pride, parades in your area. It’s an intersection of communities that tend to support each other, not the same community. Think ven diagram. All this coming me as a US Army vet who served in Iraq, and a straight man from the south whose wife taught me most of these terms and concepts. Open your heart, sit down and listen, and you’ll find there’s a lot to be learned about life from people you’ve never interacted with. It’s all love, man. Love is beautiful.

My friend years ago came out gay and wanted me to be gay too so we could have sex. I said no since I am straight and was in a relationship, and was later kicked from the group for being a homophobe and my inbox filled up with messages calling me a hateful homophobic Nazi from their friends. I almost reconsidered because I was suddenly alone and was desperate to have my friends back. Good thing I didn't because they planned to secretly live stream me with a webcam us doing it. They wanted to see a "Gay Virgin" get popped while they played with themselves. But of course I'm straight. It's impossible for straights like me to feel rejected, unwanted and forgotten simply because of who I am attracted to. That was years ago and it sometimes stings. But I'm glad I didn't give in just to fit in.

@@CrimsonMeyit’s not really a double standard, though. Coming out as LGBTQ+ is a big deal since straight parents often do not even consider that their child could be queer, and coming out (or being outed, like I was) carries a lot of risk that announcing being straight does not. I was kicked out when I was outed. Even with parents who are supportive, every queer person has stories of being discriminated against by extended family, former friends, classmates, coworkers, and total strangers. We are more likely to be victims of assault or m*rd*r. Coming out as straight carries none of that risk whatsoever, and that’s why it comes across as self absorbed when straight people do it…not to mention that doing it is often a way of deliberately mocking queer people. It does sound as though the kid had the right spirit, so to speak, but also, it was a teachable moment that was wasted. That’s why someone said that he will be so embarrassed some day when he looks back on it…he’ll realize that folks come out as straight “ironically” in order to harm the community. I’m glad that he is an ally to his friend, and actually took the time to figure himself out. He sounds like a wholesome kid. In a perfect world, folks would be more intentional about getting to know their preferences, be more accepting of differences, and coming out as LGBTQ+ wouldn’t even need to happen in the first place, you could just date who you want to date and be who you are without it being any big deal. Unfortunately we do not live in that world.

F slur used to mean cigarette, but after BURNING GAY PEOPLE, they would call them the F slur because the BURNING GAY PEOPLE looked like cigarettes. Edit: some people mentioned links. I can't link on my phone as it is hard but, some more info if you want. The slur is also known as "bundle of sticks" and is still known as "cigarette" in the UK (as someone told me in the replies) both correlate with what I'm saying. You burn both of those. Hi Stanzi there is a guy who calls himself StayStraight. He bullied me for being bi and said that it was a choice (which it’s not). I wrote a long comment in which I described my struggles as a child and how I was raised to think something was wrong with me, and how coming out was the most freeing thing ever, like a weight lifted off my shoulders. I also mentioned how numerous studies, meta-analyses, and statistical reviews proved his ideas on straightness being the “norm” or “default” completely wrong, and that even if he had studied history he would understand this, as our extremely binary understanding of sexuality is an extremely new concept that only came into existence during the late 19th century, and 20th century. I then sarcastically joked that I guess bisexuality was the norm, although I feel bad for saying that because sarcasm can’t always be read over the internet, and I was just trying to show how dumb his own assertion was. None of us are the default. We all exist in balance. Anyway, he has commented under the person LeVergil’s comment, which says that June is PTSD awareness month. So I joked that it was my month as I have both PTSD and bisexuality. And then he began harassing me about how it’s a choice, when he has no idea of the pain I went through as a child, and how freeing it was to come out. My mother still doesn’t believe that bisexuality is real, so comments like that really hurt. He is also asking why there isn’t “men’s mental health awareness month” when there already is a mental health awareness month. Anyway, my reply to him went missing as he false flagged it, and it was a long one, so KZitem usually doesn’t read those, or just removes them if they contain sensitive words. So I reported his comments as both spam and hate, and I commented telling someone else to do so, but that comment won’t post either. I’m just banned from commenting from that thread now while that guy whose entire channel is based around trying to tell people of other sexualities that their sexualities aren’t real and they need to choose to be straight - then false flagging their comments when they prove him wrong - is insidious. And not something that deserves to be on this channel. I just thought that maybe you could do something about it, because I always view your channel as a safe space. You are my favourite comedian and I always tell everyone about you and watch all your videos. And even having to have the memories brought back of how my mother still doesn’t believe that I can genuinely like men and women at the same time made a tear fall down my cheek. You have more power than I do. Someone like this should not be allowed to silence people in the LGBTQ+ community, while trying to convince them that straight men are the biggest victims on the planet, and further trying to convince them that their sexuality, gender, and the struggles they’ve been through, are all in their head because “being straight is the default, and you choose to be bi” (his literal words to me). And this guy picked me after I had already commented that I had PTSD on top of being bi, so he knew that I was vulnerable. Someone like that is insidious and cruel, and I don’t want a single person to fall for his schemes, or cry because he’s brought back painful memories that they’ve had to work hard to overcome. If there is anything that you can do, please help. Thank you. ❤

@@themysteryoftheoldtown2063 pride is about the struggle past generations had to go through. In pride we commemorate the stonewall riots and key members of the lgbt community who fought for lgbtq+ liberation. It is a celebration of history as well as a march for those in the community who are still ostracized. Pride is not just “gay”, it is about trans people, who are STILL fighting for their own liberation. And this is not only in the US. Pride is a worldwide celebration; when we march we don’t only think of ourselves, we carry with us all those LGBTQ+ people from other countries who are still wrongly persecuted, jailed, beat, murdered, just for being who they were born to be. Pride is a march to celebrate how far we’ve come, but to also bring attention to how much more needs to be done. When we march we are reminding people that the fight for liberation is not over until everyone is safe. This makes people uncomfortable and angry. And straight people want to take part in the celebration part because they are blind to what pride is really about. That is simply a sign that we still have a long way to go.

While I don’t think who you’re sexually attracted to needs to be celebrated I can understand as I’ve seen many people can’t be themselves in their own homes and I think pride month means a lot to them. They’re able to join events in person or post online and it gives those people something to be a part of and feel accepted since their own families wouldn’t. And if that’s how much it means for a lot of people then I’m happy they have this. I do hate how companies take advantage though because all they care about is money.
