Wouldn't hitting the bar on the way down exert more energy because you have to get higher up? I think that would probably be easier to hit it on the way up rather than down. Maybe I just need a better explanation as to why on the way down is more efficient and easier.

I was wondering the same, and his advices has helped me a lot to improve and understand the movements better but this time I need to think carefully about why it is easier to chain the repetitions this way, especially being someone who still lacks enough strength.

No because the Kip is so much easier if you hit it on the way down. You’re stalling progress way more by doing it on the way up that the extra inch is negligible. If you try it both ways, the feel is very apparent in how much power you lose.

Same reason why a half squat is easier than a full squat or any exercise not done with the full range of motion is easier than doing it correctly with the full range.
