I no longer have a relationship with scraps, I got rid, donated 4 garbage bags, hopefully the person who received them makes lots of quilts. I’m with you, I have many other projects I want to make

Scraps. I LOVE my scraps. For years I just threw them in a bag and then never used them because it would require pressing ea. of those little pcs first. So when I moved I tossed them all away. Then I started putting them in containers by color. Still they were not cut or laid flat, just tossed in the container. And again, I didn't want to use them because they were wrinkled and I would have to take hours to press them all. So for the last few years, I have slowly started going through those containers, one by one, pressing and then cutting into strips or squares, and then organizing them by sizes. I now, have a system where I do a different scrappy project ea. week. Week one might be churn dash blocks, week two might be fish, week three might be a red/wh/blue quilt project that is scrappy, week four another scrappy project, the for those months that there is a fifth sunday .... I use that sunday for going through my scrap bins that still need ironing and cut, and filling back up my container that have my scraps pressed and sorted by size. Then I" ready to cont. I have so far had great success and plan on cont. this system for this year. I can't wait to get started. Meanwhile, all my blocks from last year are starting to go onto my design walls, and I'm hoping to get all of them done to tops (flimsy's) before the end of Feb.

Yeah, my brain likes having the ruler instructions stored with the ruler but it can be a challenge to do that. If the ruler has a "hanging hole" I punch a hole in the corner of the instructions and keep them attached to the ruler with a recycled bread bag twist tie which is thin enough to still allow the ruler to hang on a peg or hook. I have Gudrun Erla's Stripology ruler and keep her instructions for cutting 1/4" increments (and which I laminated) woven into two slats of the ruler. Looking at your washi tape collection and the basket they were in: if you still want to keep them you could get a wooden dowel (@ Joann's or Home Depot) and cut it to the width of the basket and hang them on that with the ends of the dowel sitting in one of the upper slots on each side of the basket (the max size dowel you can use will depend on the width of the slot) like you see in those ribbon storage cabinets. This way you can easily see what you have but still store them in that basket and there might even still be space beneath them for other things to be stored. I'd rubber band all those Sew Fine markers and glue sticks together so they stay neatly in a bunch while they sit in that basket. In fact, rubber bands go a long way to corral things that need to stay together. Works well for my Sharpie markers (bundled into warm, cool and neutral color sets) which I keep in a drawer. Save those thick rubber bands that come around vegetables like broccoli -- they work great for that!

Seeing your checkerboard red and white quilt was a revelation for me. It is now my "go to" for using up my scraps. When I finish a quilt, I immediately cut up the small scraps and then sew them up when I need a break....

I think I have a couple of dozen scrap blocks in the process of sewing right now. Recently I found a bag of small pieces that I hadn't squared up (around 1-inch pieces) I think I was saving for a doll's quilt. A couple of times now I have grabbed a handful and just sewed pairs of similar sizes together (light and dark) to start wonky log cabin blocks. A few years ago, I donated almost 200 blocks to my charity quilt group. I struggle to put them together in a quilt myself because some are so busy. At that time there were some ladies that hadn't made quilts yet. They got the job of sorting the blocks into groups of 12 or 15 blocks by the main colors in the blocks, a sashing solid was picked and cut, then one of the sewists in the group sewed the tops. Later one of two long arm quilters quilted these. I have used some of the blocks to add to medallion type quilts, but I find I need some coordinating fabrics in them to make these work for me. I love the idea of the "Scrap Saver System " that Bonnie Hunter has, but I can't get myself to throw away scraps as small as 1-inch! Maybe it is because I don' t have a huge stash. I still have more small scraps, but there are less and the ones I had trimmed to even 1/4-inch increment stripes from 1-inch to 5-inches have dropped way down. I raided those years ago when working on the first Splendid Sampler and some of the odder sizes came in handy. (I made 50 blocks for a wall hanging which I haven't put together yet)!

I do have a huge box with scraps and they are sorted into colours. I also have cut block size containers. I’ve made 3 scrap quilts and do enjoy them. From your 2021 when you used the scraps from quilts you are making I have continued doing that to add into the backing. Love it

I started sewing the 2.5” sqs instead of cutting thread in between stitching, like you. It really helped when making my Christmas valances in the LIVRM and KIT. I’ve also started making lap quilts for my cousins and I’ve got blues & purples with neutrals to make a Rabbit quilt for one cousin (how perfect for 2023: the year of the rabbit), and blues & neutrals with your BlueBird block for another cousin! I feel lost when I forget my sqs on sew days away from my home.
