This video was so helpful! I went to 3 different post offices for advice and got many different answers about my wedding invites. We had included a thin keychain with the envelopes still being under 1 oz. A few workers told me 2 stamps would be fine just in case. We had about 20 invites returned to us because of insufficient postage due to the thickness of the invites. Some sent back asking for more postage, some handlers considered a package. I promise these invited were very thin. 80ish had no shipping issues. Many of our guests received invites that were stamped more postage required but obviously were later sorted by hand and pushed through to be sent anyway. I wish I knew any the non-machinable butterfly stamps! No postal worker suggested them! I have a few more invites to send. Hopefully the butterfly stamps make this process much easier.

A non-machinale surcharge that you need special stamps for???? That's consumer-friendly..... Well presented video, though.

I was told by one clerk that all I need is a butterfly stamp to ship a plain white envelope with non paper inside, but another clerk made me use the butterfly and a normal stamp. The envelope weighed less than an ounce so I don't understand why I had to buy a second stamp

I really thoroughly enjoy your channel, it's so informative but also entertaining! Like when you pointed out the names of the new-release rate change butterflies species "each sounds more made up than the last one" 😆and I don't disagree. Thanks for teaching me about my stamps!- I have received some of these on my mail but never knew what they were postally intended for. Also, congratulations on your recent wedding 🎊🎊, and I would Love a future episode on Love stamps as I've recently started collecting these!

Loved this! I just discovered your channel, and it's super well-done and informative! I am a wedding stationery designer, and I've made it my goal in 2023 to better understand how our postal system works, to overcome some of the frustrating mistakes my clients and I have made over the years. So, I have a question I'm looking to answer, and that's what led me to your video. Unfortunately, I still don't know the answer after watching, so I'm wondering if you might know: What actually happens with non-machin(e)able letters? Are they handled as packages? Or do they go through an antiquated sorting system that just takes FOREVER? Many designers in this industry seem to think that hand-canceling your own stamps/envelopes (if the post office in your town allows it) will make the process faster; do you know if that's true? I have scoured the internet for a video or article that describes the step-by-step process or path that hand-canceled envelopes take... and it seems to be a black hole. Help?!

Non-machinable charge is tricky as it is up to the decision of the postal clerk. Some allow you not to have a machinable charge or you do.
