I still have a pot of the old 1994 Mithril Silver and for the sake of science I ordered some Nostalgia 94 including their Mithril Silver. They are 100% identical. That is to say both are awful, which I remember being the same case 30 years ago. That, to me, shows an S-Rank level of effort on Warcolours' behalf. All the other Nostalgia paints and washes I ordered are excellent and I will be ordering more because I'm a glutton for punishment and I have this weird mental block preventing me from using newer paints when I crack open my old 'Eavy Metal painting guides looking for inspiration.

I'm really interested in these paints so great to see your take on them Miguel. A bit unfortunate about the Mithril, I can't remember too much from back in the day but I think I always found that paint a bit thin and light anyway, I was always much more about the Chainmail and Boltgun Metal! 😆

Light metallics are hit or miss. The old Vallejo has the same problem, Citadel works fine, and Coat d'Arms works quite well.

A great honest review and I would agree about most of what you said. Interesting that you didn't comment on the Skull White as it has the thinnest consistancy of all the paints in the set in my experience and very poor coverage. I use the white for smooth blends and it has its uses. The Flesh colur is the least used due to the lack of opaque quality. I also love the washes and can't wait for the set. The glazes I really like also.

@Rush the Wash Hi thank you so much for your videos you’ve inspired me to get back into the hobby. I’m a novice painter at best but you help me a lot! If you have time can you answer this question? How long do you need to wait after you prime your miniatures with a spray primer before you can start painting?
@rushthewash
10 ай бұрын
Hmm... what primer is it? I usually don't start painting them until next day because I don't have the time to prime AND paint the same day, but they seem rather safe to the touch within 30 min to an hour. It all depends on the brand, though! Very happy to see you back in the hobby! Glad I am of help!

Hi thank you! It’s Games Workshop Spray Can Primer. I just looked up a video from them about it. They recommend 15 minutes. My miniatures have been let to dry overnight so I think I’m good. Thank you!

The enchanted blue and goblin green look like the later 90s colors to me that games workshop had made for them in france. I'll try a few and see if they are good. I loved warcolours nostalgia '88 line. But it seems everybody makes thin paints today and nobody is willing to make the heavy body vinyl medium used in the 1988 boxed sets nor the original formulas using the original pigments for things like titillating pink, worm purple, moody blue, hobgoblin orange, etc or the first generation enchanted blue, bestial brown, red gore, blood red, goblin green, etc. I have no idea why they are unwilling to make exact pigment formula matches with the same medium. At least these look like later 90s equivalents so I'll try them.
@rushthewash

Many of those colors you mentioned I never tried. Why they haven't made those anew, I have no idea... maybe the formulas have been lost to time, maybe some pigments are banned under new regulations... who knows?

@@azecece1 I don't know my friend. It is a shame. I suspect part of it was that a lot of people are so used to dropper bottles that they wanted to change the bottles if nothing else, but I really love the classic paint pots. Most paints stored in them literally last forever. Like 40+ years without a problem. Maybe we can convince our friends and Warcolours to make both! :) They do make great paint.

I still have some of the old Citadel 94 range and they are the best well-kept paints I have ever owned. Later ranges from the same brand dried up in no time at all. The screw-on tops were the worst by far, and came immediately after those.

@@rushthewash it could just be my pot of paint is decades old.. however the old mono-pose miniatures I've dusted off still have the same tone.. it's ment to be a colder/fainter gold with a darkish hue tone.. warcolours- shining gold is a very warm bright gold.. I'd be happy to send them my paint so they could copy it exactly.. just so I can continue to use it ☺️

@jeremiahembs5343

I agree. It's not nostalgia if you don't have original pots, but the late 1990s pots were hard plastic hex pots with screw top lids that dried up really fast, later they changed the lids to include a flip top that had a better seal and those lasted much longer but they retained the hard plastic pots, so to make nostalgia pots for this particular line doesn't make sense. For the nostalgia '88 line though it made a lot of sense because the original pots were round polypropylene with air tight flip tops that lasted forever and then were soft hex pot versions of the same material. I much prefer the first generation pots over any other design and the second generation were also very good. After that games workshop went insane and tried inferior designs. But few people know even in the earliest paints they did feature some with dropper bottles specifically their inks, but those are extremely rare collectible variants of the expert set from the late 1980s.
