My friends think I'm strange, because I love to shop in grocery stores. I consider this activity my 'sport.' I bring home all kinds of food and try to figure out what to do with them. Fortunately, now I live on the West Coast of the US, and there are many fine Asian grocery stores here. I cannot understand a single word, but I go by what things look like, and I take photos of food on KZitem and go in search of them. It gives me a fun and exciting thing to do, both to find, and to eat. Thank you for feeding my habit, and giving me more to look for!!!

Excellent videos. I also love and stock up on that particular brand of dashii: it is the best I have found. I will be back in Japan in December and have added many things to my shopping list thanks to these two videos. Have you done a video comparing all the different types of miso? I am always confused which types are best for which dishes. Again, thank you for this video. Domo arigato goziumus!

I love these kind of shows along with gadgets. Most fave is train and walking shows. I wanted the instant Sushi rice flavoring for 70 cents so I immediately went to Amazon and it was close to 6 dollars for one pack. Shocking. With that kind of markup you guys could open your own store.

I recently went to Japan the Kansai region and I actually have bought some of the products featured in part 1 and 2. I went to the nearest supermarket Ito-Yokado. Since there's no English it was difficult to choose which items to buy even though I'm fairly familiar with Japanese/Asian food/ingredients. There are so many green tea brands and there's a whole aisle with only dark sauces. Not always are there pictures and even with pictures it was not easy to guess what's inside or what it's for. I wish they also include an English ingredient list. I've bought bonito and kelp to make dashi. If I knew they also have dashi powder without msg I would've also bought those for times you want it to be quick. I would also recommend to buy Japanese curry in powder form instead of blocks. It's much easier to dissolve it. I also bought aonori, mochi blocks and canned red bean paste. Note that Japanese packaged food have short expiry dates in general.
