@@AndrewCamarata Caterpillar also offers automatic retarding control standard on the 725, 740 Ejector and 740 GC. It is moving toward automatic retarding control as standard on all of its ADTs, which means taking the lever out of the truck. The ADT understands if it is on a grade and how much payload is onboard. Based on these inputs, it selects the most appropriate gear and uses the most appropriate level of retardation. “The operator only has to take the foot off the accelerator; that will engage the automatic retarding control and standard automatic downhill-descent control provides security on grade and eliminates the guesswork in shifting and applying service brakes while descending. The operator matches the gear to the grade, backs off the throttle and lets the transmission retarder manage the descent safely, while helping reduce service brake wear, operator fatigue and maintenance costs. In tough traction conditions, the interaxle differential lock transmits 50% of available torque to the forward axle and 50% to the two rear axles, simplifying operation. In addition, it can be engaged on-the-fly while slipping for smoother navigation of tough job sites.

I would think that if it were interlocked, it would be in the computer. But the computer does think it's trying to put it into 2nd gear. It lights up the 2 on the dash and then fails. So I think the computer is working and is not interlocked. The shift solenoid likely has it's own relay, maybe on the computer board, or outside the computer that could be causing issues.

The more likely case is the ECU is shared between several different configurations of truck, and you need it programmed to work correctly with that specific engine/transmission/sensor set. After all, an ECU from a Ford F150 isn't the same across all models even of the same manufacturing year. The price however is a little bit of BS - charging for mileage to the customer site, but they all do it that way.

Ive recently rebuilt an auto & it certainly wasn't a transmission fault or clutch packs. When those go it will still shift but you'll rev like you're in neutral. Id service a valve-body before i pulled a transmission out. Id clean and air-check solenoids before a valve-body, but in that truck's case id look at some of the programable features. I know its possible to set a CAT so it stays in first for site safety. Also, the little flash into 2 but doesnt shift is exactly what happens when this mode has been set.

Being a former coal/surface miner (ret) I like to watch a lot of dirt moving and mechanic work. So I usually look at the titles and skip to the most entertaining, for me. DON'T! You can't do that on his channel. He does so much more in these videos than the title contains. When I say that Andrew has more content than any other show, I mean it. I watch them all! Diesel Creek, Letsdig and his good friend Jesse Mueller (he's really good too!) He's prolly the best so far, in my opinion anyway. His subscribers attest to that. 1.14 M! He's a mud slinging, dirty handed, videographer who has really captured the masterful art of keeping his content entertaining at all points. One minute he's going break neck down a dirt road and the next he's figuring out which diode is bad on a plug. WTH! If this were a chick flick, you'd be crying one min and laughing the other. Bahaaaaa! He's a GoPro Pimp! Anyhoo........ I found the best process is just go to his channel and binge watch in sequence till you need a switch in subjects Lol That's my two cents! Andrew... I love how when you ask the dogs if they want to go for a ride as soon as the door is open they just jump in. The one dog we had for years she loved riding in my truck sadly she passed away about three years ago, but the other dog we have he whines and cries if we have to take him anywhere. The last time we went on vacation he was stress3ed out for almost 150 miles of a 1000+ trip. I don't know if the drive train makes a noise he doesn't like that we don hear or what.

This was a very nice surprise to see today. I wasn't feeling well and this cheered me up. I'm sorry that didn't work out for you. Reminded me of hauling dirt and rocks when I was four years old and was all tuckered out by the end of the day! Wow that was nice to see that dog collar tracker in use. Who knew they would travel that far away from you. You went after them and Blue looked like he was ready to jump for joy to see you. As he says "Cody made me follow him". haha. I'm glad they were both safe. It just goes to show that when people let their animals out at night, they have no idea how far they go until they are at the back door wanting in again. Blue is getting bigger!
