You two are awesome! Cayleigh, you totally remind me of Sky Brown!!! She's my FAVORITE personality! You look exactly like her! And David, you fit what makes you two a perfect couple! I subscribed... and been van lifing for over 20 years, yet in mini vans by "keeping everything simple" and uncluttered.....very very simple! Minimulist, yet with conveniences like laptops, power inverters, lots of great bedding (on the floor for more head space), and black sheer curtains (up or down, and can push the corners into the plastic ceiling supports...super easy), and again, keeping it simple and roomy. I get 28 mpg on the highway trips, and 23-25 around towns...hence, a mini van! Plus memberships at rec centers and libraries. I travel coast to coast mainly staying in Colorado and the Atlantic Ocean in Florida...used to stay in in Santa Cruz and Humboldt in California...with some Sedona and Flagstaff visits. You tow are truly awesome... really good vibes to you. Now, to check out more of your tips as I do want to get a "sprinter high top" type of gig, yet, still keep it rather simple with maybe a nice small dining table, solar (200 watts?), and still, keep it roomy and open...and use insulation, and to keep it interesting, use cool ocean and mountain fabric to cover the insulation so it can be very light and easy to switch out or move around for various "scenes!" Who knows, maybe a section of a town or space, or what ever!!! THANK YOU for your efforts to bring us your goodness! OK...I'm ready for another of your blogs Cayleigh and David!!! I want to see how you redo this van!!! Humbly onward, Forest Sky

@madetoexplore
3 жыл бұрын
Yes we will be actually! 200,000 miles is a little on the high side in my opinion. This really depends on the maintenance as well though. Some sprinters will last to a million miles if maintained properly. If your dumping all the work and money into building a camper van you want it to last as long as possible.

Hi guys, i was looking into the Sprinter pre-2006 like yours and I saw from the brochure that the cargo hight is 73'. Im 6'' and i would fit right in, but considering to put some insulation in, I would have only 2cm to play with, which it doesnt work. How didi you do since you are 6'3"? Did you put some insulation? Is the measurement i checked wrong? Thank you
@madetoexplore

No your right! We used 1” insulation on the floor but we added a large skylight that allows for 3-4” of added head room. We have a video on how we installed it as well!

Actually, other than the rust this van is in excellent condition with under 150,000 kms which is almost unheard of! Being able to look past the rust and bad paint job (easy cosmetic fixes) is what allowed us to get such a steal of a deal on it! Stick around for the finished product, I bet you change your mind🙃
@peterelios7568
3 жыл бұрын
@@madetoexplore I hope you do a great job with it. True that with time and patience we can do it. That’s how one learns anyway. Just a suggestion: use 3m panel adhesive for flat panel repairs and mig welds for everything else. Replace all rusty panels. Don’t just grind and cover up the rust; it will come just back in no time. All the best
@u3962521

So you deliberately chose a vehicle that will damage the environment more but is easier to work on (no dpf). I hope the younger generation choose to get a van that's ok on the environment too. I get why you made that choice. I recently sold a modern 4x4 Amarok because of the known DPF issues.
