The only other car that beats a 3 year old Tesla. Is a new Tesla $20,000 is a lot of money for a better door button, Netflix and faster rendering computer. Btw ap1 reads speed limit signs. Ap3 does not.

I think the biggest issue with buying a used Tesla is dealing with Tesla Sales. I live in Michigan and we don't have a Tesla store near by. I was trying to buy a used Model S P85D before I bought my Model 3 and it was extremely difficult to get a response from the sales staff when I had questions. Sometimes it took days to get a response and by then the vehicle was already sold. If you emailed the sales staff back after the initial email it took even longer. Most of the time, the vehicle is not at the Tesla Store either. If you ask for any additional pictures they always say the car is not on site. I was trying to work with Tesla stores in different states as well and they all were the same. I eventually gave up because I did not feel comfortable putting down a non-refundable $2,500 deposit on a vehicle they couldn't answer my questions about or provide more pictures. I hope they improve the process and make it as easy as buying new because I will be in the market to buy used in 2021.

Absolutely agree ! Both my teslas are CPO(back in 2016) and "used" 2019. The savings matter for what still is a bleeding edge tech car.

Well... there you have it... not bad. 3 yr old Tesla is better than everything on the road except another Tesla. I drive a 2013...(the drivers Tesla) I don't have any of the convenience features, not even parking sensors. But I love it and soo does everyone that sees it or gets in it. It's the Tesla I fell in love with, and coming from a 2008 Mercedes it's amazing.

MCU2 upgrade is now only $1500!! I was very impressed with the capabilities of a 3 yr old Tesla and thus confirmed my recommendation on buy a used Tesla! Regarding warranty: Every used Tesla vehicle has passed a 200+ point inspection and comes with a bumper-to-bumper warranty. Model S and X will come with either a 4-year or 50,000 additional mile warranty or 2-year, up to 100,000 total mile warranty (dependent on age and mileage at time of purchase). If you dont need bleeding tech save $20K by buying used.

I do love tech but I also am fine with my iPhone 8 Plus. So. My 2014 p86 with nearly 100,000 miles ticks all of my boxes. My experience buying a used Tesla and never being stranded or having range anxiety despite driving the crap out of it has been amazing. I do love my sunroof and real leather (sorry) and free supercharging and lifetime free premium connection too. My hope is that in two years. Battery replacement will be an add on to Tesla energy or maybe battery upgrade from a salvage 100kwh car

Would a 2017 X with fsd AND MCU2 be the minimum to get a used one that’s good for the future (mcu2 helps get the full suite of fsd)
@zeeshanm1680

Btw, just so you know the tech can be replaced and be exactly the same pretty much as the new Model X's for about 1500 USD from the Tesla dealership to get the upgraded MCU2 processor in what is called the infotainment package which gives you netflix and other upgrades exactly like the new cars. It's also possible that Tesla will be forced to recall the older Model X's and upgrade the tech on their own due to safety problems but that is dependent on what happens between Tesla and the NHTSA.

I met a guy with this exact Tesla at a supercharger - same year, same color. I asked him if he was going to upgrade soon and he said he didn't want to lose his free supercharging. This was during that short time when new Model S and X purchases did not get it. The next thing he asked was "how much does charging cost?" so he had no idea of the value of the thing he wasn't willing to give up. Goes to show you that you can't start charging people for something they can get free without providing some major upgrade. After watching your video, I plan to check out the used Model S and X inventory a few months after the next major refresh. I think there may be a bunch of trade ins.

Since Tesla knows every granular detail about your car since day 1, from its data, how long until they offer their own “Tesla Carfax” that shows battery degradation, highest speed it’s ever done, repair history, etc.? Could be a lucrative source of income for them.

I traded my 2019 Model 3 SR+ for a 2016 Model X P90DL a month ago. Pros and cons? The new X Is way faster, better sound system, better quality interior and a much more attention grabbing car. Autopilot is 90% as good. I never used smart summon in a parking lot. I use it daily on the X to get in and out of my garage. I don't miss KZitem and Netflix or Sentry mode. I would love a paid option to upgrade to MCU2 or 3 but honestly, it isn't that big of a deal. In the 6 months I owned the 3, I started seeing tons and tons of them on the road and it just didn't feel special. My 2016 Model X Is still a rare sight. My X was originally $140K new and I paid $78K with a fresh 4 year warranty and free supercharging for life. I feel like I am driving the best Tesla for now. It will take a decent refresh or new models breaking 500 mile range to get me to change again.

If you go on EV-TSLA.com it will search the Tesla used inventory and tell you which MCU 1, 2.0, 2.5, or 3.0. It will tell you which autopilot it has. I’ve been following for some time now. I think Tesla is putting in the FSD on the cars that has 2.5 and upgrading the 2.0 and it is reflecting on the increased number of cars with FSD. You no longer get free supercharging on CPO cars. Warranties have been reduced also.

I'm on Tesla's website and there are now plenty available under $50K with 30-40K miles. Personally that's what I would go for as I don't need cutting edge tech in my transport, but I would be concerned about any possible repare costs. The purchase price is just the beginning, maintenance on expensive cars is expensive regardless of purchase price. I like that my 2017 Chevy Bolt EV doesn't have fancy tech to break. I'm approaching 120K and maintenance has been minimal. If I had a spare $50K, I'd probably chance it on a used Model X - the hood thing about Tesla is they depreciate slowly.

I drove a loaner 2015 Tesla Model S for two days while my windshield was being replaced on my TM3. I hated the this Mode S. It was hard to get in/out of, the dashboard felt too high. If I raise the seat then the steering wheel blocked the front display. I adjusted the steering wheel up but now felt too high on my arms. That rear window was horrible with that 3rd seat headrest blocking the rear window which seems like about 12" wide in the rear view mirror. Looks like this 2016 Model X suffers the same bad rear window design with a very limited view. Hopefully the 2019.2020 models have been improved but I was very happy to have my 3 back. My 3 does sit a little too low to the ground for my liking so I hope the Y will be just right.

Good question! Sorry for not covering it! Tesla's certified pre-owned warranty offers bumper-to-bumper coverage for 4 years or 50,000 miles from the certified pre-owned (CPO) purchase date for the brand's Model S sedan, along with the remainder of its original 8-year or unlimited-mileage powertrain warranty.
