Great tip on letting the watch wind down all the way!

I have one of the 1st aluminum Octa Sport pieces from 2012 and let me tell you, it’s awesome. 52.6 grams total weight and the aluminum has been treated with a coating bringing the vickers hardness to that of or near sapphire. This makes every aspect extremely hard to scratch. It’s a phenomenal piece; I was never into sport models from the brand until getting one ☝🏻 😂

Great one Bill, I really like the Quartz one, especially with that price, but I think I would want to get a manual wind watch If I am getting an FPJ. I always left my manual wind watches wind till the end before winding them, so good to know i was doing the right thing :D

Excellent video bill . This reminds me of the cmos battery in computers they last for years 20+ no problem and the are not even stored properly i think with a quality battery it could possibly last 50 years stored in side the house Cheers Richard

Yes, Richard, a good battery can last a long time-I just re-charge the ones in my computers, wireless headsets ... and all matter of other rechargeable batteries. Not my watches, though-they are battery-free! Cheers, Bill

I like the Elegante 48. It's lightweight and most accurate from all F.P.Journe watches. It might also be the only 30m WR rated watch that is actually possible to swim with.

Thanks, Bill. In an interview following the launch of the 48mm Elegante, Francois-Paul said that in about a year he would launch a perpetual calendar version of the Elegante. I'm still waiting.... Occasionally I ask the company if they can tell me if the project has been shelved so I can just buy a time only Elegante but they just suggest I keep waiting 😞 I'm sure I won't regret it (eventually).

Bill, Thanks for an excellent part 2! I recently purchased an Elegante in the Journe “Titanium” (he has a name for it I can’t recall) for my wife. She is very happy with it. I thought the newer material used for mainsprings had less of a memory issue?

Hi Richard, that Élégante Titane is wonderfully unique and I am not surprised your wife like it. I tend to count my wife's Bovet, Dunhill and Jaeger-LeCoultre as part of my collection. My wife enjoys wearing all of her watches, and I could see her liking an Élégante with a powder blue or pink strap....just to keep me from wearing! Cheers, Bill

Love Journe watches, have two in the collection. PT Souverain with white gold dial, and Octa Sport 42mm in Tiatanium. Live both of them, the Octa Sport is super light and the bracelet construction wicks sweat away. Also, the movement is made almost entirely out of aluminum, watch weighs nothing.

Hi Bill, I had tried on one of their Centigraphe Titanes ... super light and perfectly balanced. Sound like you have the best of both worlds with the CS and O-Sport-dress and sports. Kindest regards, Bill

Dr. Sanders: You make a very interesting statement regarding manual wind watches. Is it normal practice for you to let the watch run down completely and then wind back up? The owners' manual for my Grand Seiko recommends winding the watch around the same time every day(Granted, GS is not haute horlogerie).
@leyay7540

Almost all brands suggest the same principle mainly for better chronometric performance. Even my UJ 1140L has three days power reserve, the manual still suggests to wind it daily. Personally I would let the watch run down every few weeks if it doesn't have a power reserve indicator(if it has, just let it run down to near stop then rewind).

Hi Blaine-by daily winding, the tension on the mainspring is likely to be more consistent-you'd be using the same percentage of the spring consistently rather than draining down from full charge to no charge. In practical terms, it makes perfect sense. On the other hand, those of us who really get to know all of the nuances of our watches should know if there's any accuracy loss as the spring unwinds ... there may be. Also, with full-unwind your spring is not going to be "balled" in parts that can no longer unwind and be used for charge. Happy Horology! Bill
