Although Effie Perrine took her last dictation in the spring of 1951, this story has a happy ending. Lurene Tuttle’s friendship with Howard Duff lasted the rest of her lifetime and Duff eventually overcame The Red Scare.
As listeners in the years since have collected programs, The Adventures of Sam Spade has continuously been a fan-favorite.
On August 25th, 1975, Chuck Schaden interviewed Howard Duff at his home just north of the Malibu Colony along the Pacific Ocean. Duff was surprised to learn that his Armed Forces Radio Service work played a large role in the preservation of radio programs.
While Howard Duff moved into film and TV, he was also part of the network radio revival in the 1970s, acting in both The Zero Hour and The Sears Radio Theater.
