The Chain Bridge Budapest
is the oldest suspension bridge over the Danube. It was designed by the English engineer William Tierney Clark and connects the Buda and Pest sides of the Hungarian capital. It was finished being built in 1849, at which point it became an inseparable component of the two cities that were then known as Buda and Pest. The iron and stone bridge was severely damaged by the bombings that were carried out by the allies during the Second World War; nevertheless, after being completely reconstructed, it now gleams with the splendor that it once had!
The bridge, which is known as the István Széchenyi Bridge due to the fact that it was named after one of the most well-known politicians in Hungarian history, is currently considered to be the city's most recognizable landmark. The bridge, which at one time held the title of being the largest bridge in the world, is protected by colossal lion statues that stand for the state of Hungary.
