Remember the folks from ORNL showing us those little beads among other things back in the 1990s. They went to a pebble bed high temperature gas cooled reactor. They passed them around in the class, and somebody dropped the little glass bottle about half full causing little uranium beads to go all over the place. Most were swept up, but they made a game out of letting the people in our class take turns using a brown Geiger counter to find the rest of them. The good old days... Could only imagine what would happen nowadays 😅

Their facility is across the river from my property, they used re-process fuel from USN vessels there and they have NEVER had an environmental issue, ever! BW is a great American company. They’ll play a role when and if the US ever gets off it’s rump and start building generation 4 nuclear power plants

Do the beads start any increased radioactivity at the stage when the beads are collected, prior to coating? They seem to be packed together closely?

Their Lynchburg facility has been operating for decades without even a hint of an issue. bEXT is a world class organization and is a global leader in nuclear engineering and production.

When you say "[we start with] feedstock dissolved in nitric acid" that sounds like the PUREX process, is this coming from spent fuel, or could it?

This type of fuel shouldn't be allowed because reprocessing is basically impossible, it's inefficient use of uranium and it leaves long lived actinide waste difficult to get rid of.

Any truth to the rumor BWXT sold 4 SMR reactors to Poland a year or so ago?
