Why was the request from FaithActs to have another centre nearer to Dawson denied? Even though there are 2 other SACs working there, the elderlys shifting to Dawson from Tanglin Halt obviously have existing relationships and bonds with FaithActs. For the well-being, both physical and mental, of these elderlys, the authorities really should relook at this request!

Not sure of the real reason but there are also folks who go to faith acts who reside at the blocks that are not moving to queenstown. This video is made with a focus on the folks from the SERS flat. In fact when majority of folks move to queenstown it's the minority that are left in Tanglin Halt. (there are 8 blocks near Sheng Siong not shifting)

This is heart-breaking. Many of such elderly people in Singapore led exceptionally tough lives and have lived through our nation’s developing years. To have their lives thrown in unnecessary disarray during the period in which they should be enjoying their remaining years really makes me sad. Tanglin Halt is the modern day kampung of old Singapore. Though they were living in modern concrete blocks of high-rise apartments, these elderly residents still met up everyday, looked in on each other regularly, and cared for and supported each other. Just like residents of our old kampungs. The infrastructure is modern, but the spirit was one of a bygone era.

Hmmm, you need to do more homework... Tanglin Halt is 2-rooms or 3-rooms with only one toilet. Compensation and valuation done for 3 rooms was 350K to over 400K and only 50 years was left of the lease. The new place can go up to 47 storeys and price range office SERs residents was 260K to 400K (dependent on the floor, with/without balcony). The majority of the residents are moving to the new place and they will be able to meet each other easily. The main inconvenience is the period during the move, which can be stressful for some older folks, however, community leaders do constantly check on them. I am one of the old folks in the area affected so stop instigating unhappiness everywhere.

Government should realize providing a 'good life' to its citizens is not always about dollars and cents. Singapore is an aging population with the average life expectancy growing. What is the point if the older generation can't spend their last few years in peace and happiness. The social ties are essential to them. Do you want them to spend their remaining years locked up in their 'brand new units' like well kept pet dogs in their cage. Communal space and meeting points like Faithacts are far more important than you think. You can see how the older generation look out for each other. By cutting them off from this connection is like cutting off their lifeline. Sending social workers over for home visits is far more costly as well as far less effective.

Lousy documentary. Reporters ever bought new flats in sg? Relocation stress is just that! U have to settle the selection, the renovation (new flats are empty, no tiles, no fixtures, not even kitchen cabinet), the packing and moving. And to buy new furniture, fixtures, lightings and utilities (e.g. hob, hood). If young couples can be stressed over it for months (some even break up because of it), imagine the Ah Ma having to take care of it by herself. And are amenities sufficient in the new area? 10-20 blocks of residents now squeezed into 3-4 skyscraper with common amenities at the ground level. U tell me if it is enough? Most wouldn't even venture out. It will take years for them to figure out the new bus routes and eating areas.

from my observation, wouldn't it be better for the elderly to cope and manage if the ministry relocates the old town residents 5 to 10 years earlier. Firstly, these seniors will have more energy to socialise in their new town, finding new friend in their community. 2nd these residents will not need much help to make decision on their relocation and moving of barang barang 3rd when they are use to the environment and people around, they can rely on and help one another instead of hiding in their shell, these also actually very healthy, mentally and physically. these can lighten a lot to the ministry on their health, financially and welfare.
