Thanks Ian, great to see you two enjoying your new home! 😃 Interesting video. We often see demos including Quickshots in oscable disvoidables, but you have excelled all; in this rare example of demonstrably navigating the perils of life; without additional (quickshot) appendages. Yes I know that that's not an appropriate way of exclaiming the the usage of shots that are quick. If you've arrived here, stop, go and put the kettle on and make the mash (Yorkshire West Riding "pot of tea". Well I think that's coloquial to that region ??). You deserve it. 🥰😇🙃🤠

Very informative. Just got mine (mini4 pro) due to the winds we've been having not taken it out yet. I guess it needs good light for the sensors to work as i gave it a go in the house a couple nights ago, dull lit room, side table light and it worked fine, gave it a go today in the same room and it would move a couple inches each way and that was it, come this evening i gave it another go in the same room, side light again and it would fly, was going to try today with the safty turned off but thought better lol Thanks for the video

IMHO, as currently programmed, Bypass mode is unusable. Firstly as you mention, it is too unpredictable. I want to know what the drone will do in any situation. And worst of all is the change to the sensitivity. I can't think of any good reason why you would have different sensitivities in different modes. You spend ages setting it up on three modes (sport/normal/Cine), and bypass mode just stomps all over them. @ian in london have you heard a good reason why?
@IaninLondon

No, I recall the Mavic 3 needed a firmware mod to reduce its 'flightyness'. Unsure why it's so jumpy; affects all models

I’m watching this on my phone on a train so forgive me if you already had this set up, but was bypass mode in Nifty or Normal? Nifty is supposed to be a bit more nimble and will get closer to objects (at the risk of possibly misjudging and hitting them!)
@IaninLondon

It was Normal mode; I need to expand on the two modes.....

Hi Ian. Great explanation. Btw I’ve asked this question on other people and no one has given me an answer. What I want to know is which is better - brake or bypass when the auto return to home is activated? More specifically if I set my RTH height limit to 100 , I chose Bypass mode, and I am flying behind a building that is 200 feet in height, I lose signal , the drone will activate its auto return to home, will the drone fly around the building until it eventually makes connection to return to home or will there be a limit as to how much it will keep bypassing the building until it makes connection to my controller.
@IaninLondon
11 ай бұрын
As I understand it, the return to home is dependant on the RTH setting, not the obstacle avoidance setting
@travelcollage4010
11 ай бұрын
@@IaninLondon so are you saying in my example, the drone will just hover behind the building if my RTH setting is lower than the building in front of it even if my obstacle is set to Bypass?
@IaninLondon
11 ай бұрын
No, the RTH setting are completely independent of whatever Obstacle Avoidance settings you have set. RTH will usually try and work out the best way to return home, even if it means veering around obstacles despite you having Brake Mode set. Check page 50 of the user guide : dl.djicdn.com/downloads/DJI_Mini_4_Pro/DJI_Mini_4_Pro_User_Manual_EN.pdf

Hi Ian, Thanks for showing us the differences which I found very useful. I do have a question you may be able to help me with, if you have Brake mode set what would happen on an automatic return-to-home flight if you lose control for some reason and the drone comes across an obstruction on its way home would it just stop and hover till the battery runs out ? Thanks Ian.
@IaninLondon
11 ай бұрын
This is handled by the RTH settings you have set, not the obstacle avoidance. Default is intelligent RTH and it will work out a route home around obstacles

As I did stand my watch upon the hill, I look'd toward Birnam, and anon, methought, The wood began to move. Act 5, Scene 5 “Macbeth” (Or shall I say, “The Scottish Play.”) Perhaps my eyes were playing tricks, but I thought I beheld a moving grove approach your Mini 4. Caution: If you name your bird, do not name it Macbeth. Seriously, regarding the video, I appreciate the demonstration. Cheers, Ian, from Wisconsin, U.S.A.

I noticed you hand launched and quite a few guys are doing that with the mini's, what nobody is showing is how they are landing the device and the reason for the interest is in knowing more about what is going on and what is happening while bringing the drone in with the obstacle avoidance system on. Can you talk about your normal landing process?

I have played with those settings but I wouldn't think they affect the flight or startup, just the stick movements and yaw, gimble movements.

I'm also a bit puzzled by Ian's remarks about the "jerky movements"!? There should be no difference in the drones behaviour, whether it's set to brake or bypass. I will test this tmw for myself, but I think our boy who plays with drones is wrong on this one. Interesting though...
