Sorry, I use Google translate ;) Byviksfortet, also called the 8th battery, is an older defense facility on Rindö in Vaxholm municipality. Byviksfortet is also described as Värmdölinjen's 8th battery even though it is on the Rindö side. The fort was built in 1897-1900 to prevent an intrusion through Oxdjupet, which was dredged in the 1870s after Vaxholm's fortress was condemned for defense purposes. The fort was located just northeast of the fortress Oskar-Fredriksborg and was part of the so-called Vaxholm line. The fort, also known as the 8th Battery, was blasted into the bedrock inside deep triangular tombs and fitted with four 12 cm and three 57 mm cannons in the armored tower. At sections with more fragile or lower mountains, granite walls were built up while the top was reinforced with concrete. Across the fort gate are Oscar II's name slate and the years 1897-1900. In 1902, Vaxholm's fortress defense area consisted of land and water areas from the strait west of Resarö to northern Värmdö. A total of 37 batteries, mobile artillery, mines, infantry and a reserve of mobile units with, among other things, an engineering squad and a balloon department. Through the defense decision of 1925, which aimed at disarmament, the Vaxholm line left the war organization in favor of Vaxholm's outer fortification line. The fort was instead used as storage. The four cannons were moved to Lidö in 1941 with the construction of the outer Sea Belt Line (Info Wikipedia).
