sootch00 what do you think about nutns review on this? of course I know you guys get along great. the stock on his cracked with little to no abuse. do you think this could just be a fluke? I know every gun can fail in any way so id just like your opinion if your willing to give it.
@johnski4709

Nutnfancy reviewed a PTR, not the c308. Some subtle differences; the c308 uses surplus cetme internals, the ptr uses us made hk parts. The trigger on my c308 is very short and crisp with just a little creep (slight) before you hit the wall then click. Reset is very short as well. Muzzle brake is different; I think the century chevron brake is better than the ptr stock one. I bought a standard slim hk handguard with the aluminum heat shield for about $ 5. I've fired about 400 rounds through my c308 and the stock is fine, no cracks. I think the c308 is a little lighter as well; it uses a smaller profile barrel instead of the thick barrel that was n nutn's PTR. jmtcw

John Ski thanks for the insight. I knew it was the ptr but I just assumed the stock was the same. either way it seems like a great rifle, for the money especially. thanks for the facts though friend.

The stocks probably are the same, but mine has not cracked so far. Nutn is the first I've seen that cracked. It's not that expensive a part to replace if you had to. iirc you could buy an od green stock set for like $20. I've put an oversized charging handle on mine for easier gripping and pulling back.

Thanks for this brief review. For the record, the hand guard is NOT vented - those oval holes don't go all the way through. I asked customer service at Century, but the guy was clueless. So far, I have found nobody who can answer the question: Why are the vents decorative rather than functional? I drilled mine out and sanded them, so there is ONE C308 with a vented hand guard. Second, the mag catch has a sharp edge/corner which digs into aluminum mags, making them hard to insert. I took a Dremel and ground and sanded it smooth - mags go in easily. I added a full-length rail to the underside of the hand guard for fore grip, bipod and laser. I capped the hollow grip to store four extra rounds. I added a cheek rest to the stock for use with a scope. I drilled holes in the mags to indicate 15, 10 and 5 rounds left. Video coming eventually.

I can vouch for CAI customer service. I purchased a rifle that came with a polymer and steel magazine. The steel mag looked like it was dredged out of the bottom of a Vietnamese river a week before and was just repainted. I told them that I know these mags are surplus but even in surplus condition this is not acceptable. They sent me a very nice replacement magazine a few days later.

Most people online are confusing the two different rifles from Century. The original Century Cetme's were really hit and miss. One might even say they "sucked". I bought 6 before giving up on the original line. The new Century Cetme's that are paired with PTR are pretty damn good! Not what I would call hit and miss at all. I currently own 2 ptr's, 9 HK's, and 2 of the current Century/PTR C308's. I paid $600 (out the door) each for the C308's and $975 (out the door) for the last PTR of mine. The PRT is a little better rifle, but not close to being a $400 better rifle over the current C308's. The PTR has a better finish and slightly better accuracy. If someone doesn't want to pay 1K for a PTR, I would have no issues telling them to jump on the Century/ptr C308. That's first hand experience from someone that has owned a bunch of HK's, Cetme's and their clones over the years.

I have the PTR-91 GI and love it. Definitely would recommend this platform. I like the metal trigger pack housings better than plastic, and they are readily available as an add-on. AR10's are ok - but more money, not as reliable. FALs are nice, but even more pricey than an AR10. M1A1; very expensive. This rifle is the best value for semi-auto 308.

Love my C 308. Have the wood stock and it looks amazing. Mine was manufactured just this year in January. Worked flawlessly at the range with about 50 rounds thru her Yes ...it's definately a battle rifle. Got mine thru Classic Firearms for $579. Oh yeah!!
@MartyInLa

Sootch00, I picked up one of these last Dec. and finally got around to taking it to the range. Mine came very dirty, plus it took tools ( a rubber mallet) to knock those takedown pins out. Also, when I took the trigger pack apart , a spring, the disconnector lever, and the metal plug that the safety rotates around fell off. The windage adjust for these guns is the worst ever. I also experienced the same exact problem you described with the bolt group/ charging handle getting stuck, really hard to pull back, especially after firing the last round for some reason. On the other hand, once I got the rifle cleaned up, lubed, and generally squared away, I experienced zero light strikes, failures to feed, failures to eject, accidental discharges, etc. So, despite my fears the rifle might be a lemon, I am actually pleased with it so far. BTW, I was shooting next to a guy with a way more expensive AR-10, and we had a good laugh because his gun was malfunctioning like crazy while the C308 was functioning flawlessly other than the problems I mentioned.

Four years ago, I bought a new in the box Century C91, which is a Century built CETME. I took it home and Century had force-matched the bolt and bolt carrier, so it was a pain to disassemble and perform the initial cleaning. It took me forever to get the two retaining pins back into the receiver, but I managed to get it reassembled. I took it to the range the next day and after a single box of 7.62 NATO ammunition, it locked up and the bolt group would not come out of battery. Luckily, my FFL made good on it and I traded it for a Vector V93. Based upon that experience, I just can't say I would trust Century with their builds.

Having had a Century CETME years ago I expect issues when I got the C308. Namely accuracy it shot 2 feet to the left. However the C308 has surprised me no issues, and it was on target right out of the box. Broke it in, and have been feeding it Tula with no complaints. Needs some work to get a factory paddle mag release installed. Rear sight was sticky out of the box a little rem oil fixed that. $3 mags, fun to shoot, hits what you point it at out to 400 yards. For $670 I got it for I love it.

Heres my short review of mine. When i first started using it it jammed 2 times then it failed to eject 3 rounds in the course of first 60 Fiocchi ammo, this was after i bought it without cleaning it and taking it out to the range on the same day. After cleaning it and disassembling it i took it back out and went through 100 rounds and didn't jam once. The only problem that i noticed was that the small magazine sometime fails to feed the ammo this is because it has to fit perfect to feed. Bought extra magazines at $3 each! Overall great rifle put a rail on the handguard for a foregrip and works fantastic.

On the move, 5.56 makes sense for the original reasons we went to the M-16, weight. However, if defending more of a fixed position, .308 delivers serious firepower, and for the money this makes a lot of sense for that. Proven design, great price, cheap mags, and easy scope mounting (remember the crazy expensive HK 91 claw mount?).

For $700 for a SA .308 battle rifle the price is unbeatable, especially with how affordable the mags are. However, it does not look fun to shoot for long because it looks like it hits your should hard. I still like the M1A for .308 even though the M1A is more money. Dr. Ludwig Vorgrimler is the man most commonly associated with the design of the Spanish roller-delayed CETME rifle, and its prolific offspring from the German gunmaker H&K such as the G3 & MP5. The trigger re-set for this rifle is quite impressive, but the hard truth that they do malfunction, hard on brass, and difficult to set up a scope because of the charging handle. Bottom line? For $699, it is OK, ...but this is definitely a real mutt of a rifle: German engineered, CETME used parts, with new US parts/barrel...& far from being an H&K, which of course you would have to pay much, much more! (that is if you can still fine one.)

corbon10mm DSA is making a fantastic FAL rifle. I'd love to get one.

I wish I could get one, It's rare that I see a rifle that I like, AND can afford. Unfortunately, I live behind enemy lines. I hate NYC.

nice video but getting a Century gun is still hit and miss . I just bought one of these c-308's and I had a problem with removing the bolt carrier group from the receiver for cleaning. It was rubing really bad and would get stuck in place at the end of the receiver. So I polished the heck out of the inside of the receiver with fine grit sand paper and polished the bolt carrier too down to the white metal, and now after a lot of elbow grease and cursing it is working better.

I'd prefer wood handguards over plastic any day. If I really wanted that tactical look I'd just paint the wood black.

I have one of the original CETMEs that Century put out. They really screwed them up! I was lucky with mine insofar as the fix was fairly simple. I've switche out out the furniture to the G3 green GI furniture.

Well i was gunna watch this but I can do the same video. Love this gun. I have shot ammo from every corner of the globe thru it without any problems...except some blunt nose hunting rounds,lol And no matter what folks say about Century,I have had my hands on about 6-7 in the last 6 years and everyone ran perfect. I was hitting a 5 gallon jug at 400 yards with open sights last week

Anyone else just instinctively skip past the first minute or more of Sooch shooting videos and looking like he's taking a shit the whole time?

Maybe Century's quality control is improving, but I still went with a PTR91 for a HK91 Clone. It's just a better made rifle, Built on Hk91/G3 specs so I can make the modifications I want to make without resizing and possibly damaging the rifle. The C308 is more of a CETME pattern Than an HK91. And I've heard mixed reviews about Century's products, even this rifle.

Look like the twin sister to my H&K-9l; love the 91 the only thing I don' like is the weight of the weapon. but as far as I'm concerned it is one of the best rifles made. when ammo was cheap I would shoot 500 rounds per week, now days I don't shoot it that much.
