I was injured 2 years ago and did my rehab at Craig Hospital. When I got there they said they started connecting the night bag to the outlet of the leg bag and that's how I’ve been doing it ever since. It's supposed to decrease the chance of bacteria getting to your bladder and causing a UTI. Anyway, it works like a charm and seems easier than disconnecting one for the other. BTW, I’m a C6-7 AIS B and I think your channel is awesome. It's been very helpful for me and keeps me motivated to work on my independents. Thank you!

Can you please explain the steps in detail of this process?

Thanks for the support dude. I am all about my independence and this works for me. I don't have finger dexterity so using the cheap plastic bags are too difficult. I use a urocare bag with quick release valve so I can empty it whenever I need to. It's all about finding what works for you 💪👊

Good demonstration of how much pseudo-dexterity (is there a real word for that?) you have. The results you always get doing stuff make it hard to believe you don't have total hand function. Way to problem solve and make things work for you, Shawn! 😃👍

I'd love to see something about your go pro camera setups. Also I will have to make a short video and show you how I take my catheter tube off with a pair of inclusion clamps that doctors use.

I usually set up my GoPro on a little tripod and I use a Sony 4k camera which I have a couple places I can mount it. I was thinking about doing a behind the scenes video of how I do everything. That's cool you figured out a way to get it done 💪👊

I heard you say something about your bedside bag being pretty full of pee, which was true, is that how full it normally is? Or what did you do differently that is was more full than normal?
@LiveToRoll

It just depends on how much I drank the day before and how long I had it connected before I went to bed. Also if it's hot I retain water during the day and pee extra at night.

@@LiveToRoll how long do you usually have the bedside bag connected before you go to bed? If you see there is pee in it before you go to bed, will you empty it then or wait until morning? So, you're saying, you tend to pee a lot more at night, when it's not only hot outside, but when you drink a lot more water? Understandable.

You are awesome dude I've had mine for most of month now I still don't know how to change from the night back to the daybed and really super nervous and scared and not knowing if it's dreaming properly feel like I'm still urinating out of the same hole being a girl but drinking a lot of water or am I just freaking out because it's new help the only reason I ended up with this is because I got a pressure ulcer on my back side so now I have all this new hardware and I don't know how to handle it my head is not wrapping around it got any suggestions

Hey! I'm so sorry it took me so long to respond! So in the beginning I think I remember it being pretty uncomfortable all the time. At least for the first catheter or two. I still have a lot of bladder sensitivity so every time they change it I'm really uncomfortable, get bladder spasms and AD for a day or so. I love the gift to worry about switching to a leg bag just yet if it's still within the first couple months. And when you do start using the leg bag it'll be easier to have a caregiver do it the first few times at least because it's not the easiest to learn if you're a quad. Are you taking any ditropan or any other bladder suppressants or gotten Botox injections? I'm not sure if any of those would help but reducing the spasms could help with the pain. I wish I could give you some better advice but it's hard to know what's causing your pain or what's happening in there. You're welcome to email me and I'll try to answer anything else if I'm able to help. shawn@livetoroll.org

Do you ever use any kind of tubie pads to prevent irritation?

Hey Chloe! Sorry it took me so long to reply! Yes I use a gauze pad around the catheter site. I put a new one on in the morning then take it off and clean the area at night.

I really hated it when Bard put those metal drain clamps on the bags. I have major issues with them popping open spontaneously usually at the worst, most embarrassing time possible.

Yeah I've went to pull it up from where I hang it on my chair and had it catch something on the way up but I don't really leave the house with the big bag much so I'm usually by myself when it happens... It's messy though lol

Sorry about the last message I don't spell well it's almost 2:00 a.m. where I am at and I can't sleep constant pain in my bladder that's why I was asking if something was wrong the nurse I have says I'm all good but I have no idea they say it's normal but not for this lady

Have you ever accidentally pulled your catheter? I cringe every time you move it.
@LiveToRoll

I usually don't pull it any harder than the nurse right when the put it in and I don't even do that much but I have given it a few harder tugs accidentally.. and once ripped it out at night but I've made sure never to make that mistake again lol.

@@LiveToRoll I've had mine accidentally pulled a couple of times and it takes almost a week and a half for my bladder to recover from it. 😬 Now I make sure it doesn't get pulled by me or anyone else.
