No, no, no! I had to stop the video at the 4:24-minute mark because you don't want to be doing any trimming. The center is designed to fold back if it's hit abruptly. Again, it's designed that way! If either one on each side has suffered some abuse, remove it and with a heat gun put it back into its original shape and remount it, it will be level and correct. And in the future be careful parking up against parking stops because if you fold them back they will retain that folded shape and they will drupe and you will have to repeat the aforementioned procedure ¿`_

I wouldn't take 2 in off, but sometimes if you've got the height right where you want it and if it's driving you nuts, taking a quarter or a half inch off isn't going to materially affect anything.. unless you're in the Southwest United states, that might push you over in which case you probably need a bigger radiator anyway.

I had originally planned to put coilovers and a carbon fiber ground effects package (splitter, side skirts, diffuser) on my C5 that I just bought, but during the test drive with the seller we scraped the rocker panel on the speed bumps we went over. I will just lower the car as low as possible on the stock bolts, as the lowest setting still has a bit of wheel gap. I won't even get any lowering bolts.

The air damn scraping is a right of passage. What I don't like is pounding the rad support frame into a steeper driveway threshold. It literally sounds like you were in a car accident when that happens. Also this is just my own personal opinion but if you drive your corvette and find you are inconveniencing other motorists because you have special needs I suggest going around and finding another way. Don't be that guy.

Yeah, actually it's been hot as heck recently and I just drove it 90 miles r.t. with zero issues. I'm not really modifying the stock setup, but rather if someone's really lowered the car a (or a previous owner did), we're just cleaning it up and trimming any portions that are hanging down the materially more than others. They should have a minimal effect on cooling, in fact perhaps it'll Force most owners to take a peek underneath there and pull some of the crud that gathers in the air conditioning condenser plugging it.

Running the right size tires is also important. A smaller diameter front tire will lower and rake the car. A lot of C5 owners seem to run smaller diameter 255 or 265 40 17 tires in place of the stock 245 45 17. A 275 40 17 would have almost the exact same diameter, but many owners don't like the look of a taller sidewall on the front tires compared to the narrower sidewalls on the rear.

Where does the air get vented out after it's pulled under the car? I would imagine that this type of cooling path would require venting the air out at the top like a Ford GT or Caterham 21 otherwise it would create a lot of front end lift at 100+ mph.

C4's & C5's were bottom feeder's and thus both would accumulate lots of trash (once I even found a empty cigarette pack as well) requires frequent cleaning to allow the air to flow freely. Since they are bottom feeder's, and getting back to your video of whether your C5, or C4, is running hot is because of the heat from the road surface. Summer weather especially can be hot. Good video.

thanks for the help, I have been reading about my C5 every since I bought a used one, and this is my first exposure to the correct front to back rake, in all of those years of trying to inform myself so I don't accidentally screw up the car . I use reinforcing braces behind the side air dam edges to help avoid tearing them off from repeated abuse. At first I bought a commercial product, to see what materials are strong enough to be effective, but not so strong that the car body gets torn up, instead of a side dam, when the rubber is deflected. Once I saw what material strength worked commercially, I just went DIY and adapted sections of like plastic from school rulers for mount bracings, the kind with notebook holes so I didn't have to drill anything, and cheap plastic protractor for reinforcing the curved areas. I don't mind paying a fair profit for things I buy, but I thought the corvette stuff was asking too much, when roughly the same amount of similar strength plastic was used in the much lower priced school supplies.

I have a bad "speed bump" in front of the garage. I need to lay down 2x4s in front and behind it to not scrape the car, but the car is so low that the 2" thick bords will actually stick underneith the car as soon as the tires come off them. 😅 I can't simply remove this "speed bump" either, because (1) it's actually outside of the part I own, and (2) it's there for a good reason - to keep all of the melted snow, from the entire street where we live, to flow down our garage way during the winter/spring. What is a poor Corvette C5 owner to do? Perhaps I can make some very long (8") ramps from thick aluminium floor plate? Supported underneith in close intervalls of course, to handle the weight. 🤔

My driveway is a bit steep, which is part of the problem (the bump is only too big because the front wheels starts going downhill after they cross it), so whatever I use as a ramp will have to be grippy. Removed and shaved off another 0.25 inch and reinstalled. No more scraping. Engine never gets hotter than prior to my air dam mod. 2) Installed C5 Corvette Skid Plate Front End Protectors, widely available. 3) And this is the best . . . installed a front camera, just ahead of the air dam. My aftermarket sound system has two video inputs. The rear camera turns on automatically when the transmission is shifted into reverse. The front camera turns on when I press a button on the sound system. I never hit those parking space concrete "curbs" (or whatever they're called) again!
