- This trip is particularly interesting because it is the first time that it will take place on a section of the new ÖBB Koralmbahn (Bahn = railway-line), which will be opened in its entirety between Graz and Klagenfurt in December 2025, and because it includes (also in sections) a total of four ÖBB railway lines, the Koralmbahn, the lower Drautalbahn, the Jauntalbahn and the Lavanttalbahn. Thank you for the report on the current usage of the Koralmbahn in the Carinthian section. The integration of Bleiburg is a successful connection of an existing track with a new line. The same goes for the electrification of the Lavanttalbahn up to Wolfsberg. When the Drautalbahn was constructed in the 19th century, many of the stations were located far outside the towns they represented on the station signs. This was due to both railway engineering and economic reasons.

Reducing human and environmental impact has always been a cornerstone of Austrian railways. Just look at how beautiful and clean the stations are. They look perfect. I remembered that the Drautalbahn to Maribor was diesel and it would be a nice line to travel. I was in Wolfsberg two years ago on my way back from Graz and I took the road up to the Koralpe.. wonderful scenery surrounded by greenery. Styria and Carinthia have sublime landscapes. The Koralmbahn is the largest project of the OBB and they have been working on it for years and it will streamline traffic on the Rudofsbahn and connect Graz to Klagenfurt more quickly. When I was there the Wolfsberg station was still diesel on the old Jauntalbahn and the catenary had not yet been installed. Great! If you continue like this in a year all the Austrian railways will have been mapped.

Fun fact: the lower end of the Lavanttalbahn once ran into what is now Slovenia, to a junction with the Draubahn at Dravograd and then on to another junction with the former Sudbahn mainline at Celje. With the formation of Yugoslavia, the Dravograd-St.Pauli section fell into Yugoslav territory. For many years OBB continued to run trains which ran with their doors locked between Bleiburg and St. Paul, until in the 1960's Tito had a tantrum and ordered OBB out. To avoid isolating the line OBB then built the present alignment with the junction at Bleiburg.

Advantages of a high-speed line: # Faster travel from A to B # Longer cab view journeys on KZitem are over quicker and you still have time to watch another railway video 😉😝 Disadvantages of a high-speed line: # Many sections of the route are in cuttings, tunnels or are restricted from the view of the surrounding landscape by noise barriers -> the joy of watching nature pass by is thus largely destroyed # For rail relaxation: cameras mounted on the outside of the locomotive generate extreme wind noise via the built-in microphones - which was particularly annoying on this journey at 160 km/h!!! It was very interesting to see how old existing railway lines are being modernized these days, but although the image quality was once again above all, this video will not make it into my "Top 100" of railway films 🙄 Sorry ☺️
@RailRelaxation
Ай бұрын
@wandajackson3410 I am sorry for the wind sound. The faster the track is, more difficult it gets to manage the wind sound. Many times the authorisation to film forbids me to capture the sound inside of the drivers cabin, to prevent publicly sharing the conversation, the radio transmissions in the cabin...so I am always trying to do my best. Sometimes the additional microphones are not enough to get wind free sound.
@wandajackson3410
Ай бұрын
@@RailRelaxation Of course I understand the technical background and also the problem with the train radio! But my somewhat ironic comment shows the main problem with these high-speed journeys: the real experience of traveling, both for the travelers themselves and for us viewers on the screen, is watching the landscape pass by, marveling at the daylight and cloud moods... Not only on the high-speed line you have shown here, this experience is ruined by many tunnels, cuts in the landscape and noise barriers!!! That's not your fault or your camera's fault, but the usual railway travel experience simply doesn't happen here 🙄🫤 Recently, for example, I watched a journey from Frankfurt to Munich via Würzburg/Nuremberg on KZitemr "TheGreeny_FV_TV": from Nuremberg, the IC 403 double traction really revs up and accelerates the train to 300 km/h on the high-speed section !!!! Short-term WOW effect... but I can't really enjoy this cab view ride because of the limitations on the field of vision that apply to all high-speed routes! This channel operator is a train driver himself and he also had to play music for a very long time instead of the driving noises because the employer doesn't allow the train radio to be shown or listened to 🤔 So please don't worry: the trip to Austria and the documentation of the current state of the route were really great when enjoyed on the big TV screen 👍🤗 The background noise and the limited visibility on the high-speed section significantly devalue this trip for me personally, so thumbs up anyway, but high-speed routes like this will never get a five-star rating from me! Best wishes 🖖

I'm disappointed in traveling high-speedtrains. Yes. they are fast (most of the times). But they kill the travelexperience. Because almost all of the time the views outside are blocked. Because of very often driving through tunnels, over viaducts with windscreens, through villages and cities with noise-reducing screens or walls along the railway. Even in rural areas it is very often not possible to enjoy the world outside. That makes the trainride ultimately boring, to me. These videos show that it isn't much better for the traindriver.
@RailRelaxation
