It seems hard to do a flying jibe:-) I am an advanced windsurfer, debating whether I should get into this wingy thingy. I really enjoy my windsurfing sessions right now. I haven't convinced myself to try this new stuff. I know you used to windsurf. Why don't we just enjoy what are familiar with!? Transportation is not an issue for me. Any thoughts? Thanks.

Yes you have to learn again the jibe. It's different from windsurf. You need to forget the sail. Cabarete is very shoppy and it's not the best place to pratice. I am blocked on the end of the jibe I am not confortable riding toe side and switchin feet is tricky. I think I am too stressed. I know a lot of people that pass the jibe after 20 to 40 sessions. I am not very gifted (around 100 session). I went to the foil after a bad injury on a ankle in 2019. I was afraid to put strap and the shoppy water was very painful. At this moment wing foil had appeard. So I bought an hybrid board (wind and wing) and I started in windfoil for one years. In 2021, I went in Cabarete and took 2 lessons; After 4 tries I could fly a little. After ten I was able to fly more than one minute. I was hooked. I sold all my stuff of windsurf. I am 65 years old and I love the sensation in winging. The glide with nothing fixed on the board and no harnass give the feeling that you are flying on a carpet like Aladin. It's smooth with no sound. And for an old windsurfer it give you a little of youth. It's far more less tiring than the windsurf. I was declining in windsurf I am progressing in wingfoil (to slowly from my point of view). My goal is to pass the jibe in 2024 and after be able to surf the swell in freefly. In my opinion, freefly is the Grall in winging. In Cabarete I just had the feeling for few second because it's not so easy and my foil is a little bit to big to keep the speed. An other parameter is the range of wind needed compared to windsurf. In windsurf you need around 17-18 knots to have good ride with a sail not exceedind 6.7. In winging, with a 6m, I am very happy from 13 to 15 knots. And if the wind is gusty, it remains pleasant. You need the gust of 15 knots for the take off and after even if the wind drop to 10 knots no problem to keep flying (it's why you need to do the flying jibe. I am able to pass the jibe by touching down when I have turned 180 °). So now I practice in a small lake near my house where I didn't went in classc windsurf for 30 years. The wind is gusty and often weak. Almost everybody on this lake is now windfoiingl or wingfoiling. I have an advice for people that wonders about winging. Try to have 2 or 3 sessions on efoil there are more and more rental. You will have take off from the first session and flight on the second. The feeling of flying is similar of winging. kzitem.info/news/bejne/xq2J2Y13coiHlY4 it was my 5th session in efoil (after one year of windfoil)
