You saved me a lot of time, and right before I ordered a filter from Amazon, thanks! I'll just keep zooming around in my 09 stick shift Beetle with one less worry!

Thank you for this video. I had to go into that space because over the winter a mouse made a nest in there. What a mess and stink it was. I got the filter and got in there and there was that black filter thing. Then I found your video which explained everything. Thank you so much. I thought I was going crazy.

Correct. I think Volkswagen had a supply chain problem and just put in that black dome to protect the vent hole, but you can order parts to install an aftermarket cabin filter if you want to. Otherwise you will just get fresh unfiltered outside air which is not bad anyway.

I wished I would have watched your video 1 hr ago. Not sure why Autozone sold me the filter you showed on your video. It's time to return it. Thank for posting.

I'm restoring my 2007 convertible Beetle and this was on my list 📃 of things to do. After watching several KZitem videos, I see VW stopped putting these in after 2006. But so many people found mouse and rat nests in this area, so I'm going to take it to the dealership just to clean it out. Thank you for your advice 👍😊

1. Find a junk yard that has a pre-2007 New Beetle. 2. Remove the mount and frame for the filter. 3. Pay the person at the front desk (for me it was $10). 4. Buy a new filter. 5. Install the mount. 6. Fit the filter into the frame piece. 7. Work the frame and filter into the mount. 8. Hang the mesh filter in your garage fir comedy relief. 9. Enjoy filtered air for the next 12 months or more.

Joel, I am forever in your debt! You saved me a lot of trouble working on my daughter’s beetle. If there was a Nobel Prize for providing obscure information that is incredibly valuable to me, you’d already have that giant Nobel pendant around your neck, and all the included perks like free blooming onions at Outback Steakhouse.

yeah we got the filter, took off all necessary parts, WHERE"s THE BEEF??????????????? found your video a little late , but thanks so we are sure it is only a screen, we just vacuumed it out and "NOW" we will reassemble, and then send the filter back. It really sucks that the aftermerket doesn't give us the facts, but I guess the factory knows.🙃

Yes indeed!!! Had the same experience! Just wondering if it has one at all somewhere else? I have a funky old smell that comes out of the vent when air first comes on. It goes away but i just want it gone😄
